I'm about to commit a TB sin.

I, for one am very disappointed in you, and in all these so-called "Talkbassers" who are serving as enablers for this so-called "fiduciary responsibility". Have you all forgotten the vows of permanent debt You took when you first placed your hands on the low-pitched alter? The promise before the god of groove to revoke all earthy responsibilities so that you might more become more perfect in your collection of holy items? FOR SHAME! As it says in scripture: "do not build up treasures in the world of practical value, where dividends return and investments pay off; but instead build up your treasures in bass, where money is not made, and GAS does not end"

It was fine either way, if payments weren't a struggle. If you were paying $340 per month for a few years, you paid off the interest long ago, and were mainly paying principle- they made their profit (interest) off of you mainly at the front end of the loan, if I'm not mistaken. If $340 were manageable for me every month, it was no big deal to make the payment, I would have gotten the bass, and continued the truck payments till the end. Then I'd have the Rick and the truck, no biggie.

Agreed. Because for 6 months only truck. Coulda had BOTH truck AND bass. His sole could get infected and he could die in 6 months, and maybe he couldn't work the pedals to enjoy the truck during that time, but he dang sure could play and enjoy that Ric--right up to the end! Just tap the OTHER foot!! Put the Ric on a credit card and his heirs wouldn't even have to pay it off!!! Save the cash for the funeral!!!!

I'd be paying the truck off first too. You'll save more in the end due to not paying interest for 6 more months. Insurance depends on the truck. It might be at a value where the insurance company won't fix it anyway so no point in carrying full coverage. I had a 10 year old car with full coverage and after a snowmobile trailer busted out the headlights and grille and crinkled one fender a bit (didn't even get the hood, header panel, bumper), they said it was borderline and they wouldn't fix it in the future. So I took it off. Just save the difference for if you get in a fender bender or whatever. Or to go towards the Rick. Financial freedom is a great thing.

@Bassmaticmatt Congrats, you took the more profitable path....but keep the "big" insurance for a bit.

Living debt free gives you far more flexibility...to play what you want, when you want.
VIOLATION ALERT!
ONE PRIMARY KEY TO BEING HAPPY RELEASED PUBLICALLY BY "MANTIOCRE" !!!

At least you didn't let them know that the entire credit score thing is a big game with consumers being "the mark".

As long as you've got everything you NEED basswise, meaning a working bass and amp, cables, strap and whatnot,
AND you're just GASing for 'a' Ric - not the special one in that one store that is somehow unique and might be gone any day, this is the right decision. You could keep up the monthly rate and pack it in a savings account while looking at Rics and decide on which color to get :-)

Yesterday I pulled $2,300 out of my account. As im looking at the cash I have the incredible urge to but a Rick.
But I only owe $2,100 on my truck. So despite my intense gas pains im going to do the fiscally responsible thing and pay off my truck. Six months early I might add.

This hurts my sole a little but I'll be able to grab a Rick in no time since I'm dropping a $340 monthly payment. Not to mention the money on insurance saved switching from full coverage to liability. If I decide to do that.
Good day to you's

Proper call. I spent under $1400 on my new 2016 4003s. That means a new RIC could be had by aug 1st saving 300 a month. And you are still 40 bucks ahead.

Good man, but hold on... You mean it now hurts when you walk in your shoes?! That gives new meaning to GAS pains. Sorry, I had to be "that guy." :smug:

If you don't mind taking out a line of credit through Sweetwater, you can get the Rick now and pay it off over six months at 0% interest (just don't be late on a payment or they'll tack on interest). It will probably run you about the same price per month as your truck payment. You'll have to email them for the actual price. The "retail price" is listed on their site, but they aren't permitted to post the actual out the door price (Rickenbacker requirement).

The Sweetwater guitar gallery shows actual pics of the Rick basses currently in stock.
