I'm in London. Where should I go?

This is an oddball recommendation, but check out the Hunterian Medical Museum if it’s open. A fascinating collection of historical medical artifacts and such, but it is not for the squeamish.

Yeah, I was going to mention the Wellcome Collection, and also the Horniman Museum - and whilst the Horniman does have an interesting collection of weird instruments from around the world - unfortunately the highlight of the museum was the stuffed Walrus (Victorian taxidermists had never seen a walrus before, and not realising that they have rolls of fat, stuffed the skin to capacity, making a gigantic walrus balloon - it's bloody hilarious), which is away for restoration until 2026.

Hopefully the rest of the horrific taxidermy is still on display - some of it has to be seen to be believed, but the museum seems to have been revamped, and I fear it may have lost its gloomy gothic charm (it really is / was like a Tim Burton wet dream).

Haven't been in ages, but the V&A (next to the Natural History Museum, and Science Museum) had a really fantastic tea room - spectacularly tiled, like a deluxe East End eel, pie, and mash shop (if you can still find one, that's a culinary adventure).

It's worth pointing out that all of the major museums (Tate Modern, Tate Britain, Natural History, Science, V&A, British Museum, Portrait Gallery, British Library) are free entry - though of course there are specific exhibitions that charge an entry fee.

One slightly under the radar art gallery, that is also free entry, is Damien Hirst's Newport Street Gallery in Vauxhall / Kennington. It's currently exhibiting a show featuring Hirst, Shepard Fairey, and Invader.

We did the Tower of London, British Museum, Lady DI memorial was really nice, Primrose Hill, Hampstrad Heath, Campden Market, Portebello Road. First morning I rose early and did a run, no phone or maps, I don’t recommend this, after an hour I found a map at a train station and realized I was still several miles from home.

We also did a side trip to Oxford that we really enjoyed, went to the Cotswolds, the Ashmoleon which is like the British Museum without all the tourists, realized I could put together a JRR Tolkien tour, saw his College, his house, the Bell Inn (model for the Prancing Pony), his grave (marked with Elven names) and the pubs where he and cohorts met, the Eagle and the Child and later the Lamb and the Flag

Change of plans... I fell in the hotel bathroom this morning and am now in a wheelchair. I am supposed to see level 42 tomorrow and am working on just getting to see that!
This has been one crazy trip.
Aw, what a drag. I hope you get to see L42 though! My girlfriend and I had tickets to two of their shows at the beginning of the month but had to cancel when my mother ended up in hospital. Best of luck to you.

I spent 8 hrs in the A&E, so there's that I can check off my bucket list. Fyi, nothing new broken, only soft tissue I. IMO it's worse than a break. But whatever, I've been dealing with this broken patella since march, so it just another pothole for me.

We made it.

Not necessarily just London, but a visit to the British Isles ranks very high on my personal bucket list.

In London; most of my must-see list would be places of historical importance. London Tower, for sure.

What I'd really like to do would be somewhat impossible... I'd like to spend about a year or two in-country, try as much as possible to integrate into society in some small midland community. Possibly in my former line of work in public utilities, or repairing musical instruments. Just find some way to fit in and contribute. I think there would be a lot to learn there. It'll never happen, but fun to think about.

I've never been a good tourist. Always wanted to know more.
