I must say that so far I like her solo's better then a lot of the bass "gods" we get so excited about. She is very melodic and not as busy as a lot of players, but she still has chops. Kind a like younger way hotter Will Lee. And I've always liked that curly haired Jewish princess look anyway. But damn it like most here I could be her father.

It would seem so.

I'm certainly not 'raving' about her, but in her defence I offer this performance with Jeff Beck where she does makes it look pretty easy to do what alot of "chops/exibitonist type players" would fall on their face trying to do. Playing smoothly through the changes, a melodic and honest solo with something to say, and not just wiggling fingers, which is inspired by, and enhancing to the song. Her solo had a beginning, middle, and end, and dynamically built to a wonderful 'hype' at the end. What more does one want? Of course it helps when Jeff Beck bows to you as you finish your solo, (though looked like an honest gesture, inspired by her playing), but/and c'mon, give her a break, she's what?....20?...21? Give her a few years. Plus, who else of late can you name, (male or female), that decided to jump on a plane at 16 only to secure gigs like that by the time they were 19/20? Of course that speaks not only to her playing but also to her strong character. Her looks and age may get the attention of many, but they won't get her the gig. Also I don't think anyone other than silly T.V. talking heads like that one you posted, is making such claims about her anyway.

She's a working session bassist in NYC area, gets some high profile gigs, nothing revolutionary about her or her playing, just another working professional.

+1, no offense to her (never met her) but I don't get what the big deal is. Is it just because she's a woman? I suppose that's novel to some people.

Thank you Dave for those clips and agreeing with me.

I for one have met her and seen her and Richard Bona at NAMM (LA 2006) walk booth to booth ripping it up. Another LA NAMM (2007) seen her with Marcus jamming booth to booth. She has networked in the circles that will continue to bring great gigs and further exposure to her, maybe that is an example that we all as musicians can pull from.

I think that a few TB'ers (nerdy, uber-single, social-phobia, the ones that sit infront of the computer all day ranting) see a female musician on any instrument, in a mostly male-populated industry and immediately think that she is hot or cute. Get over it.

I read a "rumor" that she and Vinnie were an "item" on a message board awhile back and it threw me for a loop.
Not that it's any of my buisness, but my first thought was that it could possibly harm some of her credibility. Vinny has helped hook her up with a lot of these big time gigs, and people are always asking, well how DID she rise up in the ranks so fast. I'm not suggesting anything, i'm just saying it opens herself up to some negative publicity. No matter how she gets hooked up, she has to bring it to the gig and she does. I'm just saying...

Right now she's one of the most visible female players out there. People who don't know anything about bass players, know who Tal is. She's helped bring a little more respect to the rest of us females who are actually SERIOUS about bass, but she's gotta be careful of her reputation. Just my opinion.

I've been a HUGE Tal fan and i'll continue to follow her career. I'll be seeing her at Bass Player Live and I'll keep going to any live gigs she does in LA. I think she's a great natural bassist. I love her style.

The HOST of the Today show is an idiot. It was obviously his choice to take the focus off of her playing and focus on the fact that she's a female. HE made her a novelty and that is pretty annoying. The whole idea for her being there in the first place was about her playing and to promote her CD and some gigs she was doing in Australia. I thought the host was just an idiot.

I've never seeing Tal or any of her fans have ever claim she was as good or better than the guys you've mentioned. In all fairness to her, I think it's like comparing apples to oranges. Each player has their own style and have all been playing for different lengths of time. They each have different levels of professional experience. Tal doesn't have nearly the amount of professional experience as Victor so it doesn't make sense (to me anyway) to compare the two at all.

Not knocking Tal or anything, I think she is a tremendous bass player, but I'm pretty gosh darned sure that being young and female opened up a lot of doors that should have stayed closed for years. I think she has the talent to be where she is, but if she was older, male, and not cute it would have taken years more (if ever) for her to get where she is now.

I feel much the same way. Not a great player imo, solid, but uninspiring. If she were a guy I doubt she'd get half the hype she does. As for all the "OMG She's hot" crowd, I don't see it. If she didn't have a bass in her hands I doubt they would either!

Just watched that with my jaw on the floor! Why haven't I heard of this guy, how come he is so old and yet not a household name!? I hate that tune (and that album, despite the fact that I love fusion, and it's without a doubt my favourite genre of music, that record is the epitome of dull fuzak imo!) But the chops on display in that video were amazing!
