I'm letting my Bass Player subscription lapse.

Bass Gear Magazine blows away Bass Player in every possible way related to equipment. Obviously BP touches on some areas that BGM doesn't (like theory or interviews with players etc), but BGM to me is still a more complete publication. And even though they don't interview players, they interview luthiers which to me is usually more interesting.
We're all spoiled. Years ago the only mag you could get to read about Jazz
was down beat. An occasional article on a bass player, maybe a paragraph.

Wasn't the Billy Sheehan cover issue #2, with Geddy lee being the cover on Issue #1? Anyway, I have all the issues beginning with #2 until I let my subscription lapse last fall. The magazine no longer addressed any of my interests, and it kept getting smaller and smaller with more white space on the pages.
The one music rag I get now is Vintage Guitar, but I only read it for the articles....
Mine with Billy Sheehan on the cover says "PREMIER ISSUE" at the top. I'll see if I can find it and post a pic later.

There are people, usually those involved in shilling digital media, who want us to think print media is dying. Yet recently both Gallup and Pew Research both have released polls showing that in serious (not beach reading) contexts, more people prefer print books and that more print books are being published now than even in 2002, long before the present digitatolatry set in.
The biggest hurdle digital media has to get over right now is their (usually) feculent interface(s). If the interface is a PITA to navigate, the site won't be visited.
Hmm; I'll have to check mine as well. Anyway, the Sheehan cover is the oldest one I've got.
The only reason I keep subscriptions to (any) paper published periodical is because my mother is a US Postal worker, and I'd like to make sure she stays in business, until she retires three years from now.
Same here, did that a long time a go. However, they have to have all those advertisements to survive. It is really hard to be in business as a magazine at this age.
I think I should've done it when Herrera extolled the virtues of a $150 power cord.
I paid $17.00 for 13 issues. Seems that at a less then a $1.50 a month it is worth keeping.
It's hard to keep up with social media, forums, websites, and YouTube. Playboy doesn't have nude photos any more. If that doesn't tell you everything you need to know about print media, you've got your head in the sand. LoL
I have 2 issues before that one. Nov/Dec 88 with Geddy and Sep/Oct 89 that featured 8 on the front, and covered the art of soloing. Both of those were only supposed to be "one-off" in nature.
I stopped my subscription back in 1997, and along the same lines as having TB, but it was a daily newsletter of sorts for bassists that was on the web. I'm getting old, I can't remember the exact name.
I agree; Jim Roberts managed to keep the gloss:content ratio at a respectable level. I gave it up at least ten years ago. Now the only time I see it is every couple of years when I pick up a complimentary copy at the AES convention, and I'm always disheartened that the number of content pages has again gone down while the ads again have gone up. (Somehow I doubt Guitar Player is any better at this point (I haven't looked at that one at all lately); I miss the days of columns by Tommy Tedesco and "Teisco del Rey," and Craig Anderson would give you something cool to build (with arcane chips that are impossible to find now).)
The Bottom Line, in all its ASCII-art glory? I was on there until . . . I can't remember, I think there was a change of servers or something that made it difficult for me.
