I'm obsessed with this bass (Mike Lull content)

I can't get enough of this bass. I've never played a Mike Lull, but I hear such good things. I don't know if I would love the Aguilar OBP-3 preamp, but that color is just so nice. And a Plek? Ugh... I gotta stop window shopping!! :rollno:

Yeah, I’d probably slap a John East pre in that. It’s a ‘tad’ pricey for a FSO that needs mods, though. Still, I bet it plays well.

It's not a matter of "it needs a mod", it's more about finding the voice you prefer for your instrument.

I have an M5V that I installed the Nord NJ5 pups in it. The best thing I did with my bass is to put in an East J Retro deluxe preamp. It has an amazing voice now.

A J Retro or a Uni-Pre preamp would be a worthy modification indeed. I hear a Sadowsky preamp would be as well, if you can find them. A bud had to order the Sadowsky from Thomann Music as there were none in the states. We're talking about putting it in my M5V temporarily to check it out.

Absolutely gorgeous bass! And I'm a fool for matching headstocks!...:D

Fair enough re: "it needs a mod". And who knows? It may be great as-is. I'm not in the market for something like this right now. But it sure is fun to GAS over pretty basses.

I had the John East J-Retro in an Overwater used to own. It was spectacular. And John is so easy to deal with. Very helpful through the entire process.

Looks like a beautiful jazz bass inspired 5 string with a Hipshot bridge and Nordstrand pickups. The big question would be: Can you connect with the string spacing, neck profile, and tone? Once you strap it on, unless you are playing in front of a mirror, all the prettyness goes away and all you will notice is tone and feel.
