I'm officially boycotting Guitar Center

I wouldn't say I'm Guitar Center loyal but I've bought many things there. Why not? It's a store and they had what I needed or wanted at the time.

I buy my cables from there. Lifetime warranty? Great deal! I buy books there as well. Oh, bought a pair of 30$ headphones there recently. It isn't like I have completely boycotted them, I refuse to do any business there that involves dealing with anyone other than a cashier.

I was actually guitar teching for a friends band, and had to stop in for strings every once in a while. We stopped at GC because they had the stores pinned on the GPS. I have honestly never seen a Sam Ash store in all of my travels

I think I've just been lucky. The guys at my local Guitar Center, grant you not all of them, are pretty cool and seem open to giving knowledge and admitting when they don't know something.

There's actually a TB member here that used to work for my local GC and he's a great guy and has been super gracious to me over the years.

I live in Phoenix. Absolutely LOVE that there are probably 30 music stores within an hours drive of my house. Adds a hell of a variety.

Yeah, but they're not all bad.

One of the stores by my house has a guitar tech who is almost a genius. I had one guitar player friend that recommended him specifically. There was some kind of problem with the neck of his axe and the tech fixed it quickly and efficiently. If he could get over the habit of setting basses up way too high he would be amazing. I like it up a little higher than most people, but that is redic.

Again, seems to depend on the particular personnel at the particular location. I wouldn't let either of the techs at the other location in town touch my bass with a 10 foot pole and two condoms.

I've been to Dallas and San Antonio plenty of times, I just didn't need to go to a music store while there. I don't think it is at all sad to have not been in a Sam Ash, just like it wouldn't be sad to have not been in a Guitar Center. Its just a store
