I'm officially boycotting Guitar Center

Right you are. Sure the GC guy could have gone on line and ordered the part, paid for it with a company P.O., filed the invoice, made a note on the computer to call the guy when it came in, etc., etc., for a markup of what? Fifty cents? A buck? If you were a business owner would you want to pay one of your employees to spend the time to do that? I wouldn't.

They didn't carry the part. Big Deal. Get it somewhere else. And stop whining.
You would make an absolutely horrid businessman. By not doing a little legwork for me they closed the door on me ever buying an amp or guitar there. They also ensured that I suggest anywhere BUT Guitar Center to new musicians

Correct.
Unfortunately today's business [EXPERTS] do not understand, Nor see the bigger picture. They do not realize the concept of customer attraction, satisfaction, and thereby retention.
Nor have they ever heard of word of mouth advertising being the best form of advertising that money can buy.

BUT I am still waiting for someone to chime in with their recollection of a plethora of Sam Ash hate threads.
Not gonna happen, because G.C. is a turd of a caliber unto themselves.

I work in a recycling facility with giant multimillion dollar machines. I can order every single part, down to the very last nut, bolt, and washer... INDIVIDUALLY. I'm not mad that he wouldn't "Tear open a package". I'm mad that the cuntmuffin wouldn't just order the single part because 4$ is less than the 130 he was trying to rape me for. Commission is a bitch, and so was he. Like I said. I ordered it online without a problem. Their loss. Me spending $4x2 would have led to me frequenting the store much more often.

What's in it for them to order that part for you, and make about $.25? Would you spend twenty minutes to make that kind of money?

1 with the internet, as you said, it's easy for you to do it.
2 it's pretty unreasonable to expect them to stock every nut and bolt for every part of every axe.

Remember, they are there to make as much money as possible - the same reason YOU go to work every day. They are not there to fawn over you.

Wow really? Whats in it for them??? Pride? Self worth? Proving to themselves and other people they aren't a total POS employee??? Its attitudes like that that are employed by GC and exactly the reason that so many people across the country hate it there. Making that sale to me shows that you care about the customer. Which in turn may land you a management position. At the VERY LEAST aspire to be a GC Manager. Oh, wait... They hire straight out of the bottom of the barrel... To work at GC: is to not have any aspirations at all. You've given up on life. Working at GC = Working at Walmart. Same quality of employee.

So have I got this right? Bass bro walks up to the parts counter of GC looking to buy a part for his axe. Imagine his outrage when he learns--wait for it!--THEY DON'T CARRY IT. He is so incensed by this horrible treatment that he goes and orders the part himself online for $4. Then he decides not only that he will never spend a dime in there again, but that he will badmouth the company at every opportunity so that other people will not shop there either. Such is his righteous indignation.

It's a wonder there are any retailers left.

You're not getting the point. THEY DO CARRY IT. They just had to order it. It has been confirmed by several phone calls across the country to various Guitar Centers.

You think it is more beneficial to throw away a customer for life and his friends - and walk off into the store and risk not making ANY sale? You, sir... I'm so glad you aren't one of my employees. You'd be fired so fast...
What I am saying is that they have to maximize their time. FWIW, I own two successful businesses. I think I have a decent idea how to make money. Personally, I would have done it for you, but big box is not my business model.

THAT store doesn't carry it.

Everyone b%tches, but people still shop there. Your option is ordering on line - great customer service there. Shop where you like.

AHHH,
so since YOU yourself would have done it for him, you do understand the importance of good customer service.

So in your opinion ALL big box retailers are exempt, and immune to the fundamentals of customer service?

Or is it only G.C. ?

I would have done it, because my intent is to earn long term clients/customers (law office, custom baseball bat maker). I also work on a higher profit margin, which includes customer service.

GC is operating on a low profit margin, and most customers are not repeat buyers for big ticket items. Obviously most of them run on a low profit margin, high turnover, high sales model. They are by far the largest retailer in the country, and are making more money than I. Gotta be doing something right, as they are blowing most mom & pop, high service stores out of the water.

I would think employees at guitarcenter would order the part because keeping people (fellow musicians) happy and playing music? You think there would be some kind of gratification that comes from getting someone the parts they need.
Maybe they could have done it themselves... But its nice helping people out. That is just a moral, stand up thing to do regardless of pay.
They are paid hourly + commission though yeah? No loss really either way so why NOT help out?

I called them last week to see if they had any rack ears for my amp. The guy I talked to on the phone assured me that they had something for my amp.
So I went to the Boston store over by Fenway which is a real PITA to get to at 4:30 due to traffic but I had the time so I went for it.
So I go in the store and nobody greets me or asks if I need any help. All the employees were just standing around talking amongst themselves.
I ask about the rack ears and the first guy didn't really know what they were so he sent me upstairs to their sound reinforcement department.
The clerk there didn't seem to knowledgeable either. He told me that rack ears are manufacture specific.
They don't have rack ears in stock!! Thanks for wasting my time!
Anyways, this was the worst customer service experience I've dealt with. I'm done with this store. I don't even like shopping there to begin with, they've destroyed so many mom and pop shops and are just a greedy corporate entity.
I am sorry if I offended anyone who works or shops there. I'm sharing my experience and this is not the first time I've had a bad experience with this company.
End Rant. Thanks for reading and sharing your experiences if you have any. Oh, and it's Friday, enjoy the weekend!

Well I aint reading 9 pages but getting to Fenway sucks! The Danvers MA store took 1 hour to process a simple gear sale, it was brutal. I like Performance Music in Woburn & they have way more high end gear than GC now.

ABSOLUTELY,

You would think so.

Alas THEY do NOT.

Why do you think that is?
