I'm pretty new here, sooooooooo...

I've been on this forum for a long time, formerly as greybeard and now as Ampslut and I hate these dang acronyms. It doesn't take that much more time or effort to type out New Bass Day. I just think they make things a bit tribal or klanish, like you are not a member of the "club" if you don't know all the acronyms.
MTE. (My Thoughts, Exactly...)

To be fair, TB is very much a club. I have a couple students who I referred to TB. They were both scared off by the hive mentality. I am pretty sure one of them asked about mixing cabs...

Marc-

Yes, it very much is a club. Having a thick skin often is a benefit. Strong opinions abound on almost every subject, just like any other club that revolves around a shared interest. Among the clouds of opinions here you will find true experts in the field who are worth learning from. I learn something new about bass guitars every single day I come here. Many of my bass purchases were made from the research I have done here. Some of the basses I have purchased have been from other TB members! My life has been enriched by TB since I joined in 2011. I hope yours will be too.

Welcome to TalkBass!

I don’t think that’s the intent at all. Anytime I couldn’t figure something out and I asked, people here were very polite and helpful when responding.

You’ll get an occasional snarky response. But that’s been the exception rather than the rule based on what I’ve seen here over the years. I really do think it’s done mainly as a timesaver. Especially if you’re keying on a smartphone like I am right now, and your fingers don’t get along too well with a touchscreen - like mine don’t. Any convention that saves keystrokes will always be a welcome thing for me.
