I'm pretty new here, sooooooooo...

Hey Marc!

Welcome to TB (TalkBass).

A few tribal things to get you up to speed.

1. Carrots
Something that’s not an acronym that you’ll run into here is the term “carrots” which is an expression unique to this forum. It has multiple applications. But it’s primarily used when you want to say “doesn’t matter” or “I don’t care” or (if a choice in a poll) to say “none of the above.”

2. “Fire the drummer”
Usually prefixes some advice being given and not meant to be taken seriously. For example, somebody asks what they should do about their amp making a weird noise. Somebody will often begin by saying:”First, fire the drummer. Then get it checked by a competent tech.”

3. “What’s the best ______ for _____?”
This goes back many years to someone asking what model bass was the best choice for playing metal. Since so much of what gear will work best is entirely dependent on several factors besides the genre of music, it’s become a kind of standing joke around here. So whenever somebody is soliciting opinions about some gear choice they’re making, or are looking for general opinions about something, they’ll often jokingly begin by asking something like: “Anybody know what’s the best bass for ambient?”

There’s a bunch of others. But those are the ones you’ll run into most often.

Welcome to the club.

^^^^^^^^^^

THIS IS ALL YOU NEED. JUST MIX N MATCH

e.g.,

What's the best drummer for carrots?

Endless fun, and you'll fit right in with high-larious posts such as this.

That’s easy. The answer is: TORT if it comes with a box!

Among the clouds of opinions here you will find true experts in the field who are worth learning from. I learn something new about bass guitars every single day I come here. Many of my bass purchases were made from the research I have done here.
I am new here, although I have had several years on other forums to thicken my skin, but.....my very first adventure into the world of TB was to assist my search for a good short scale bass. I learned more useful stuff here in just a couple of days about my search than I learned from all my other sources, and what I learned here had more to do with influencing my final purchase, right down to the strings and the picks. And it was a post here that led me to a deal on a brand new instrument that saved me $175 bucks, a deal which was removed from the dealer's web site just a couple days after my purchase.

I can't believe TNC isn't listed...
I been racking my brain over this TNC thing since my earliest days here, today I find out what it means. Sometimes the simplest things escape me. Sorta a let down considering all the other stuff I was coming up with for it. Mostly all I could think of was GFR TNUC, but that U just kept throwing me off.
