Improving Equipment - where to start ?

ok. i bow before your wisdom. the lady will stay for now.
i'll have that jack replaced.
But still, the Trace Elliot does not belong to me and i want to quit using it as soon as possible.
So what will i put between the JBL and the MkIV ?
Bearing in mind that some time in the future i will get one of those tiny class D amps and i want to go light on my old backbone,
i'm still thinking about 2x10 or 2x12.

Right now, my gut tends towards the TC BC212 - i could buy that same cab again some time later and stack them vertically.And meanwhile i could play the smaller gigs with the MkIV and the 212.

I think it's sort of an in-between. Can handle a bit less than 4ohms but mayne not beefy enough, not enough cooling to handle beimg pushed hard at 2 ohms all night.

I have a Crown XLS-402 poweramp like that. Depending on what year model you got, some are labeled 4ohms, some 2 ohms. They can handle 2, but maybe not for long periods of time crankdd up to their limits. I've mine at 2 ohms several times with no problem, but that was running 4 vocal monitors. No extreme high power or low frequency demands there. I've pushed it hard at 3 ohms before with no trouble.

Best would be another JBL 15, but, just look around at what's available local to you, used in good condition or new and go from there.

so i spent a little time with the peavey, adressing the problem with the DDT-Compressor kicking in far too early.
Here's how i used it:
-Passive P-Bass (which seems to have a lot of output) and active Dreizehnbass Invader 5 (both active and passive mode)
-No pedals, a Vovox 6m Cable plugged straight into the 'High Gain' Jack
-JBL 15" cab on the Floor, Trace Elliot 4x10" cab on top of that and the peavey on top of the Trace Elliot. 2 Speakercables, one
from the head to the Trace Elliot, one from the Trace Elliot to the JBL (My speakercables are too short to connect the JBL directly to the head)
-Master set to 9.5 (all the way up and then a tiny notch back)
-Gain set around 2.

Before, i played with the master around 7 and the gain between 3 and 4.
Things got a little better this way, but just a little. When playing songs, the Comp LED will not be constantly on, only in the louder parts - but still, way too often.
The active Bass was set to 1/2 mastervol.
The manual claims that the low gain input has only -6db.

So before i invest money and claim favours to get this fixed only to realize my problem's still the same - am i missing something here?

I remember from past times that that top never seemed to be very powerful when opposed to 2 guitars played with 100w heads and 4x12" cabs.

update:
today, i brought an aguilar gs212 and a little mark II into our rehearsal den.
It's hard to believe how loud that thing is. back to back against the peavey it easily tops the full stack in loudness. For sure, the 4x10 + 1x15 column moves a lot more air, besting the 212 in low volumes and pants shaking saturation but that was to be expected.
so i set the gs212 and the LMII on top of the 115 to see if that might be my setup for now. sounded well. with the LMII running on 4 ohms and with the full 500W available, i turned it up to 12 o'clock and it easily was a lot louder than everything else i tried.
For testing, i went up to 3 o'clock. My ears are still ringing.
The next rehearsal may come. be afraid, guitarplayer, be very afraid.
