In a gigantic bind, what should I do Talkbass?

unless you're not planning to play any more shows, you'll need something permanent. if you're nervous about going used again, a hartke LH500 runs $350, sounds really great, is pretty loud and has a tube that warms up the sound some. yup, it's heavy for SS, but it's lighter than an all tube head and it's delightfully affordable. and like many heads, you can get it from sam ash or sweetwater on their credit cards with no interest for three years. guitar center will probably have a GK mb200 and a markbass blackline, each for $300.

also remember that AMS sells many things on 3 monthly payments without a credit check and without charging interest.

if you're willing to go used, i'd check out the ones below. try them in the store, and if you like one but are nervous, buy the so-called pro coverage.

Ask for the original CL Ad. i dont know the legal aspects in america, but in Austria it is illegal to sell something broken without disclaiming it.
If your friend didnt tell you it and neither did the CL Ad, you can easily get a lawyer and get your money back (in austria you dont even need to go to court for this).

There are a couple of independent shops around here that rent out PA and back line stuff. Nothing like that in Cleveland?

Also, most of your big online retailers offer credit deals with 36~48 months to pay with no interest. Some also allow you to make 3 equal payments although i don't know if the 3 payment deal is a layaway type thing or not, but it would be worth checking out.

Last of all, you can get a brand new 500W Carvin for really close to what you have.

And here's another option. It may not be your dream amp but beggers can't be choosers.
Peavey Tour 700 Bass Amp Head 2015 Black/Silver

Peavey also makes a 450 in their tour series that is plentiful and should be well within you budget for a good used example.

He sells you an amp that blows up and you're afraid he won't lend you his amp? First of all, he's not your friend, so please stop using that word. Second of all, I would lean on him as hard as possible to borrow his amp and when you're done, cut him lose.

Here it requires court. A lawyer......have you ever hired a lawyer? It would be thousands of dollars in lawyers fees just to get this into court. How, exactly, does a broke guy afford the lawyer?

Just go ahead and bite the bullet and get a new head and be done with it, you will thank yourself later

Didn't say who did it, but it's clear it was damaged by a prior owner.
