in ear buds Westone or M Audio

I'm touring w a band that has their own in ear system. right now I'm using single drivers. I tried the Sure and tried the dual driver M Audio IE20 . I can kinda hear my bass and hardly hear the kick drum (borrow one set from the keyboard player and drummer). they have a good board and I have my own mix but no luck. So i been doing a one in, one out, but in certain venues and large outdoor setting that hasn't worked for me. It was suggested that I buy the M Audio IE 20XB which is made for bassplayers. I guess the previous bassist had them. I also want to look at the Westone. the 200 - 300$ is in my price range. So any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Does your budget include having molds by an audiologist... this makes more difference than anything.

I wasn't considering the molds. do you think the isolation will help with hearing the bass and kick?

I think the problem is a bad mix, not bad IEMs (unless you are not getting a seal on the ones you have tried). I have a set of IE-10, and I think they sound better than any PA I've heard, as well as most hi-fi's and most headphones.

IEM do take a bit of time to get used to.. your first step is practicing through them.

Your 2nd step is getting the sound guy to do your line checks through headphones etc..

3rd step are then working back to your IEM... yes molds do work.. I've owned everything from $20 ear buds to $$$$$$$ "gotta have" types.. getting a tight seal is the first step.

Many times what folks complain about are not having enough "me" there are several ways around this.


Buying new IEMs are normally your last need.
