I have to say Incognito (and other acid jazz bands) have the coolest bass lines. I wonder how does one construct those kind of basslines. Are there any tips or approaches that I may use to create these kind of bass lines? thanks

I love Incognito.
When you ask me about Incognito's bass-lines, I could be a little bit confused because there were SO MANY musicians and arrangers working with/for Incognito.
Here is a good start.
We have/had a TB member, Higherground, otherwise known as Richard Bull who has been working, arranging, recording with/for Incognito.
Here is his profile page at TB. Just e-mail and ask him your question.
Higherground
Check this TB thread where Richard Bull answered a few questions.
Incognito- new to me!
Here is one of his songs with Incognito.

Listening to, transcribing and analyzing the lines you like is probably the best place to start.I have to say Incognito (and other acid jazz bands) have the coolest bass lines. 50/50.Richard Bull hasn't been on TB for ages so he might not respond.
I agree with @Whousedtoplay.
Here's what I'm working on now
Yeah, it was pretty cool of him to clear up some misconceptions about who played some of the lines on Tribes, Vibes & Scribes. It was certainly a surprise to me that most of the bass parts on that album were programmed.50/50.
As a true PRO Musician, composer, arranger, etc..., Richard Bull has NO time to talk about C major scales but...
When we had a question about some specific Incognito song/s, Richard Bull was very nice to answer it, but...
As you've mentioned in your posting, the best thing is to transcribe and ANALYZE Incognito's bass lines.

for me thinking that the keyboard players will replace us, the bass players. I was desperately trying to achieve a similar sound on my bass.Bass programming didn't surprise me during that period, per se, but I always assumed the parts on Tribes were played by Randy Hope-Taylor (a reasonable assumption, given that he was the bass player in the band at the time). I also assumed the drums and percs were "live" as well. Goes to show that, when it comes to the studio, you can never be too sure.In the late 80's and early 90's it was NOT a surprise but a HUGE inferiority complex![]()

What do you think about The Jones Girls original version?
thanks all for the good informations and responses. I have been learning some of their songs and been trying to decode the groove. I guess it will take some time for me to be able to learn their grooves and replicate it to my lines. But anyway thanks for the emails shared, will be very useful and I think I'll directly consult to the master
Agree with your statement with just one "but"...A lot of those grooves, and others like them, sound very weird alone, without harmony.
