Infanem Second Voice?

So I picked up a happy new Second Voice w/ expression control! I'm working on assembling my newbiggerbadderbetter pedalboard, and am confused as to where to put this thing? Where is everyone else putting their Second Voice in their chain relative to fuzz, distortion, filter, etc???

I have mine second in the chain right after a BOSS OC-2 so that I can hit all my filters with it. It also reacts well AFTER a filter, the sweeps make it do weird stuff.

I have the Exp version on the way to replace the original to make full use of the Expressionator, so it will probably get moved. That will leave me with two 2nd. Voices though and I have an LS-2 lying around...hmmm

Playing with mine a bit for the first time. It's super noisy for sure - with no input, just moving the knobs makes spaceship sounds in the background. I expected super sensitive glitchy goodness, but I'm a little surprised how much hiss and whooshing it does on its own.

The pop when engaging/disengaging is pretty annoying too. LOUD.

Sounds like all of this is pretty typical, and yeah I will probably take it as the cool sounds you get with it are worthwhile. Just seems like... you should be able to improve these issues, no? Something like a relay based bypass and a noise gate at the end of the circuit would take care of most of it. It's well made quality wise, but the design could use these refinements IMO.

I have one of these on the way from a fellow TB-er. I plan on placing it after my Supercollider Beast, and before my Xerograph Delux, and then switch things up a bit.

Any recent thoughts or experiences with this pedal?

I love, really love, the sounds that it makes, but for all the issues that Jeff posted above I took it off my board.

Yeah I let mine go for that reason. Ken is a cool guy making some really cool gear, but the designs are not really sophisticated when it comes to power supply, noise, etc. which I find a bit surprising given the quality otherwise.

anyone try a noise gate or even a loop to deal with the noise?

What i've heard from and about this pedal kinda makes me think it could be worth it if I can tame the noise.

Was going to buy of these, but thanks for the honest opinions guys: I think I'll wait on and see if the circuit is refined any.

It's even worth it with the noise.....I mean....the pedal is not for people who don't like a bit of chaos. The sound in itself is pretty gnarly and gritty.

I ended up selling mine because I could get similar sounds using a Faye Sing and another fuzz pedal and it didn't have the noise in that combo. But that's a more expensive route. Had I not had the Faye Sing for other sounds, already, I'd have stuck with the 2nd Vox.

Ultimately, this is going to be used live, so I probably need additional noise control

The Fayes Sing is also on my short list, or even the Fayes Her.

But for now the Second Voice will be, if nothing else, an interesting addition

yah. i went the Sousie route. i love the 2nd Voice, but i get very similar sounds fuzz -> Faye Sing -> octaver. with out the occasional glithes that are interesting, but annoyed me a bit.

Glitches and "noise" in the sense of crazy fuzz are ok. It was the background noise and gigantic pops when engaging and bypassing that I took issue with.
