Infuriating Cover Songs

I just heard this in the grocery store, and got angry again.

I mean it's such a classic tune with some genuinely groovy guitar and vocal work, and the Counting Crows are a talented group with some artistic credibility ... what could go wrong?

That's how I feel about literally everything Five Finger Death Punch covers... which is a lot.

For the masochists in the group, there's a YouTube video of them (theoretically a "metal" band) covering Kenny Wayne Shepherd's "Blue on Black." I'm not embedding it or even suggesting you go look it up, but if you're a glutton for punishment... I'm torn on which is worse, that or their cover of the Offspring song "Gone Away," never mind how they butcher classics.

Rock audiences quickly figured out that Darius Rucker can sing 2 (TWO) notes very well. That is his entire range. How did country audiences get duped? Bear in mid, two notes is one more than Sade can sing.

Although I never really was all that impressed with Dylan's original song, Guns N Roses took it to a level of infuriation.



Now I realize many love this cover version. And, that's OK. I'm only speaking for myself.

I'm also really detesting the Kygo & Whiney Houston version of Steve Winwood's "Higher Love" that's been on pop radio lately. not only is a bad cover, it's cheesy because it brings back samples from dead people. just blaaaaah

Grocery store music is what it is and is chosen for I assume very specific purposes.
That being said I don't know if I would have ever discovered Freedy Johnston years ago without ShopRite
