Inglourious Basterds

tarantino makes a great statement about the use of movies to glorify war and rewrite history, all while rewriting history and glorifying war. clever guy. in fact, i think all but the first chapter have at least a passing (explicit) reference to the movies, though the sherlock holmes pipe might count. (of course, people swear up and down that tarantino alludes/apes some movie somewhere in just about any and every scene, but i'm much too young and film ignorant to be able to agree.)
after seeing death proof, i am able to withstand the level of long-windedness of the scenes in this movie. (death proof had monologues that just went on and on and on and on. man, that sucked.)
if you're uncomfortable with the revenge fantasy alternate history stuff, don't see it. don't like tarantino, don't see it. don't like silliness in what should be sacrosanct territory, don't see it.
if you grew up blowing away body-armored nazis in wolfenstein 3d, then you're likely to appreciate the movie.

That was apparently all Brad Pitt's idea (the delivery)... and mother of god, was it hilarious.
I actually thought Mike Myers was laugh-out-loud funny simply because he played the character so deadpan.

! All his movies start out as "A Quentin Tarantino Film". They end with "Written and Directed by Quentin Tarantino". The Inglourious Basterds soundtrack is called "Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds". Lol.

Just got back from it... we liked it, and thats saying something because the only QT pic my wife liked was Kill Bill 1 & 2. I'll just chalk this one up to Brad Pitt
Was good though: stylistically speaking- very Tarantino i.e. memorable characters and violence. It didnt have that much filler imo as mentioned in this thread earlier- (and thats saying something because part of Tarantino's charm is creative filler)... I guess because he couldnt reference the '70s in this pic the filler was subdued
does anyone know what "revenge of the giant face" is a reference to? it's just like tarantino to sneak in some super-obscure comic book reference into his movies. (the "giant face" the title refers to is a wizard of oz nod, it seems.)
Finally saw it. I guess I'm not feeling it quite like the others, all of which I've really loved so far. (Including Death Proof.

Could be, but that's my uneducated simple idea.
And after thinking about it all morning, did the movie feel rushed to anyone else? There was lots of dialogue, but not really any of explained or even hinted at what the character may be. Maybe I didn't look at it enough, but I felt like the characters didn't have enough time to really form in my mind of who they were.
That's because they're not really "characters," they're CHARACTERS!
That's essentially always been tarentino's schtick--he takes highbrow directing auteurship and melds it to low-brow concepts and characters. In one way, every single movie he's ever made could be called "pulp fiction." The characters are all supposed to be two-dimensional.
