Killing Nazi's never felt so good!

But, it almost comes off, by making you enjoy that, the feeling of being part of a southern lynch mob, living outside the law, a low mentality.

You could have easily inserted any other group of people as the Nazis. That is what made this movie scary to me. It makes you enjoy it.

It was as scary as the women in the store in Stephen King's "The Mist"

I personally thought it was one of the best movies that's come out all year
One reason because it was a long movie, but didn't feel long to me, it kept my interest the whole time, unlike Transformers 2 :rollno:...
It was awesome.
Especially the "Revenge of the Giant Face" burning scene, that was crazy. :D

I just sat through it. :(

I thought it was rubbish. Stylish (as you would expect from QT - and I'm a big fan), but still rubbish. The opening chapter was really intriguing, but after that... it just seemed to not live up to the potential.

Worth seeing? Yes, probably. A great film? Absolutely not.

Honestly, this could even be said tenfold about most of his fans, some of which could be easily spotted in this thread - they have already decided they liked it before they have seen it.

People seem to fall into 3 categories with QT:

1- Those who love his work.
2-Those who hate his work.
3- Those who pretend to understand and like his work because it's cool, trendy, and edgy to do so (unfortunately, it's this pop culture group that turns me off the most).

Personally, I have never really been a fan of his work, possibly because I don't find much humor in mindless violence the way he seems to portray it. Violence that seems to have more of a point, like Saving Private Ryan, that's understandable. I know it's just a movie and I don't consider myself overly squeamish, but I on the other hand, I don't find a ton of humor in making a witty comment right before blowing someone's brains out.

It's not that I hate his work overall, but when people run around saying how absolutely awesome it is, that's what I just don't get.

I will give him style points for originality of his work though. Someone mentioned earlier that he rips of movies, but I can scarcely see how one of his movies can be remotely confused with anyone elses. (Which is also a big reason I will not be running to the theater to see it, all of his kind of movies seem to have the same feel-which is fine, but when I already know I haven't liked the last 5, it's likely I won't be thrilled with what it has to offer).

On an interesting side note, I noticed a few of the comments about it "not being a comedy" (I know it's technically not supposed to be"- but 90% of the reviews here have only mentioned funny parts (by some of the very same people who said it's not a comedy, ironically), so I guess it's easy to see how others would be confused.

I will no doubt eventually see it. It just wont be something I am going out of my way for.

hm, while it was a fairly good movie, I too thought that some of the scenes were WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYY too long [especially the bar scene]. It really detracted.

I must say, it got alot better towards the end.

and, did aybody else but me notice that QT used one of the battle themes from Kelly's Heroes during the parts when everyone was in the movie theater? [I can't be more specific withot giving away enormous parts of the movie]. I thought that was really cool, Kelly's Heroes is one of my favorites.

and the historical twist completely threw me. I've never seen another WW2 movie do that. Props to you, QT.

Yeah, I did; "Tiger Tank" is what I believe it was. He also used songs from Spaghetti Westerns (The Big Gundown, Blood For a Silver Dollar), a song from a Blaxplotation film (Slaughter) and and other cool songs (lots of Charles Bernstein:P)

Just saw it last night.

Excellent, excellent film!

The 2 1/2 hours just flew by! The dialogue was fantastic and I did not feel the scenes were too long. They just kept on building up an immense feeling of suspense...

Wow, the best movie I've seen this year!

Oh, and Waltz as Hans Landa completely stole the show!

i heard a radio interview with QT and he basically said that this was his version of an old Spaghetti Western. I mean, come on, it makes sense. Even the soundtracks spot on. Stiglitz is my hero. But the plot kind of follows the same deal. A small group of heroes. They even scalped people. He said that they never showed that in the old Westerns and that he wanted to show people how brutal it all really was.

Personally, I found everything quite enjoyable. Hans Landa's laugh was hysterical

Agreed- different strokes I guess... funny how not everyone sees things as you or I do ;)

However- if you think that 'Basterds' is all mindless violence, wait until you see Halloween 2 :scowl:

I went in expecting it to suck. I assumed it would be similar to Deathproof: an excuse to put as much senseless violence on the screen as humanly possible.

I was proved very wrong. My favorite QT film since Pulp Fiction, and probably my favorite movie of the year. Yeah, it was long, but those scenes of extended dialogue are part of what make the film for me. QT is a master of dialogue; it's what he does best. Those scenes were so tense I almost couldn't stand it.

I loved that QT really pushed the humor of this film. I always laugh during his films, but for the most part (with possible exceptions in Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill) I don't feel like he wanted me to. Not the case here at all. He's really coming to embrace the humor and the irony instead of keeping it shrouded to maintain that sense of heavy-handedness.
