Installing guitar stands into cabinet sides?

What about something like this...

when i saw wolfmother, their bassist had a stand hanging between the head and his 8x10. not sure how, as i was really far away, but it held his spare bass no problem.

maybe he cut up a stand or a wall hanger and mounted it to the cab?

it was probably one on these:

At bar gigs that's a recipe for neck dings at the very least. I really don't like the rack mount stands either, because my rack is always light. It takes a lot more force to tip over an entire cab that's on the floor than it does to knock a rack back.

I lean my case/bag up against the right side of my cab, and put my bass back in the case/bag on break.

When I had room on stage I'd do that sometimes. I often thought about building or modifying a case with detach-hinges and a quick interconnect between case back and bottom cab so I could safely do this on even cramped chaotic stages.

I wonder if you could use a padded magnet attached to the cabinet. Would the steel truss rod in the bass neck hold the bass against the magnet? ... Hmmmmm

Unless you are using an electromagnet or want to carry around an 80 pound rare-earth magnet, no.

And that doesn't even begin to figure in the interference you'd experience placing the most powerful magnet a regular person will ever come in contact with on or next to expensive electronics.

I`m rather surprised how many people are overlooking the Markbass product I linked...
Yes, lots of overthinking here. The MarkBass Bass Keeper does the job flawlessly. I leave mine on my 410 cab and it's always there, no weight penalty, no extra stuff to haul, done. The only downside I can think of is if you have a combo that doesn't have rat fur....then you just stick some velcro on the side to give the BK something to velcro to. Ah well....

I guess some people are always looking to make things as difficult as humanly possible.

Jeez, the MarkBass pic got quoted several times already didn't it? Does everybody have to have what you have? It didn't take me a lot of thinking to come up with a solution using stuff I already had on hand, and maybe 15 minutes to execute it. And I didn't need someone else to think of it or make it for me.

EDIT: some people actually like thinking, and often find it effortless on such trifles. And making their own stuff too. Go figure.

Indeed. That and visualizing my bass take another series of gouges at crowded bar gigs or home parties/jams immediately showed me the magnet idea lacked merit ; }

Yeah, I didn't want holes into my cab either, which is why I screwed my socket under the grill and to the grill with no holes in the cab itself... The trouble with some of the commercial solutions is that they somewhat depend on handle placement and cab height and often put the headstock in too close where something else might be in the way.

I figure the more solid approaches there are, the more chance one will find one that works for their situation and preferences. Just like other gear, eh? ; }

Why in the heck would you ruin a cabinet by scewing holes into it when one of these works GREAT and costs $12.99???

Found mine at www.stringswing.com, solid as a rock.

It works great if you have handles on the side. The other gizmo works great if you have a handle on the back. I'm too close to the drummer on one side, and the keyboards on the other, to have my bass on the side. I use a regular stand in front of the rig. Most of my gigs are not the bar scene anyway, so I'm not worried.
