Introducing Project DIY Darkray

So here's what I mocked up for a vol/blend control utilizing a Noble stacked vol/blend pot (the ones used by Warwick and Glockenlag). I have the pot here, may attempt it at some point (though probably after NAMM). This will actually move the volume control after the QDD2, where it currently goes pickup->vol->qdd2->darkglass->out. New config would be pickup->blend->QDD2(or bypass)->volume->darkglass->out

We'd be using this pot: Noll 500K/220K Volume/Blend Stacked Control - Best Bass Gear

Thoughts?

We're reversing the functionality of the blend pot, so instead of the center lug being the 'out', it is instead the 'in' with the extremes being the relative 'outs' for each respective signal.... I'm not sure if this will work how I have it. Thoughts?

hello, I love your builds and the Darkray DIY inspired me to build my own with an onboard distortion circuit based on the red llama drive in my mint ray4 sub. I was curious if you put in this blend/volume and if it works?!?

love your channel on YouTube!!!!

here’s the “mint-0-ray” style with the onboard distortion.

This is the distortion circuit that I added with the current preamp and carefully drilled out holes in the control plate to accommodate. It’s pretty tight in the cavity, but I made it work!

Hey @LowEndLobster, how is this project going? Did you add the blend knob? Was it worth it?

I've found a small blend PCB attached to a potentiometer and I'm tempted to add it to my ATK. But I would have to drill another hole in it or search for a stacked knob (and I don't know the parameters it should have), so I'm wondering if I should do it.

So far I recored both clean an overdriven samples on a loop station and they sound well mixed together.

The pot should be marked what taper and value it is. It's probably a B50K, so B for linear and 50K for 50,000 Ohms.

You could stack two of the controls for the ATK preamp (bass and treble for example, get a concentric pot of the correct value. Could even have the center detent) and have the blend by itself.
Just a thought, what do you think Lobster?

I never ended up doing this and sold the bass to move onto other projects. I have a diagram of how it would work, but it just got really complicated and wanted to move onto other projects.
