iOS Bass Players Thread #5, V, or cinco, take yer pick.

I base my opinion purely on SOUND.

I also started with the original IRig and Amplitube. I quickly outgrew the iRig adapter and started my search for better sound.

I grabbed PocketGK. Too limited.

Next was Jamup and Ampkit. I first purchased the BDDI in Jamup. It was seriously lacking until Positive Grid have us the now famous "bug fix" update. Holy WOW!! Now this was more like it.

Next up was my Apogee Jam. Finally a noise-free interface with killer sound.

I went all in with Jamup. As of this post, I have two expansions left to get in Jamup before I own it all.

For me, Ampkit just kinda fell away and I never really got into it.

My Jamup tone has improved so much that I no longer use a stage amp. The last (at least, I wasn't counting) half dozen gigs I have used Jamup run to a DI. And don't miss my amp at all. My bass sounds better than it ever has, and after every gig I have people come up to me and ask why I was texting while I was playing! My iPhone is clipped to my mic stand, and I frequently reach for it to change effects or patches. From the audience perspective, it looks like I'm disinterested in the show. Lol, I love that part.

After trying almost every amp sim out there for iOS, I ended up with Jamup as my sole amp sim/effects processor.

I waited... And waited.... And waited some more for IK to step up to the plate for us bassists, and it just simply never happened. So I moved on.

I still follow IK in the hopes that I'll find one of their products useful to me, but as it stands I'm only interested in their hardware. I've long since given up on their apps. Jamup does everything I need there.

But the iRig Pro and the Blueboard are on my future purchase list.

I think this has mostly stayed civil and hopefully it will stay that way. Anyone fairly new to this thread that might not have been actively involved on the first two parts might think IK is getting harsh treatment. There is a fairly long history from those days with IK, and it wasn't always a good one. IK all but disappeared until just recently. I'm glad they are back and that they "say" they are listening to us. For me, I am staying on the high road, as everyone else is so far also, and I'm letting them join in our discussion and hoping that they are serious about taking notes for future Amplitube improvement on iOS. Time will tell if this is smoke or real.

One thing you can't fault IK at is their overall support for iOS devices. I can't think of another company that has such a complete line of products aimed directly at the iOS musician. IK Obi has made some very honest comments in his posts and I hope he sticks around. Some other comments made by another IK rep that jumped on here after OBI "stepped away" tended to play into our desires but felt more like empty promises just to stir up interest in IK and that is the type of stuff we are very suspicious of. Rip is correct when he says IK gets a lot of negative stuff thrown at them on this forum and others. It tends to be public relations type complaints but if all of their reps that cruise the forums came off as honest as OBI, I think that might be a little different.

We have had no direct confirmation but if you read into some of the comments made, like I did, it does sound like IK has just about gotten their hardware line up to snuff and they are ready to make some improvements to Amplitube. Also sounds like some of the custom shop offerings for bass could find their way onto the iOS version. I for one am excited to see that, especially if the models are officially licensed models so all the buttons, controls and sliders are there as opposed to a knock-off amp model that is missing something.

So, if you have strong doubts I can't say I blame you. Last time the discussion got a little hostile and it was mostly based on IK's actions on their own forums. They have the right to do whatever they want over there and we have the right to not bother visiting their forums. As long as we can all keep things in perspective, I don't see anything wrong with this ongoing conversation the way it's going at the moment.. if it slips back to the way it was then we're not doing our community any positive service.

Peace brothers!

I remember the original back and forth about 1K on this thread, and being a little concerned about harshness of some people's attitudes on our side of the fence.

Amplitube made some mistakes on pricing, but that's a common complaint with IOS releases these days, and not just in the music app market. They've also been slow to bring out new IOS bass models over the last year, but they've got a pretty full plate outside of the IOS world. They've released a LOT of stuff during that period, if you look at all the markets they operate in.

I've been a Line 6 customer for well over a decade, and their customer service is some of the worst in the industry. Viewed through that lens, 1K still looks pretty good to me.

PG has profited from being quicker off the mark in the IOS arena, and that's as it should be. I like Jamup best out of the IOS apps I have on my iPad and iPhone. But I still don't use it live, because I'm fortunate enough to have hardware and Mac options that sound better to my ears.

Besides, this thread has only been running for a few months, and this is a fast-moving market. Back when I bought my Apogee Jam, it was almost the only choice for a truly high-res, affordable interface. Now it's just one in a crowded field.

There's plenty of time for Amplitube to get back on top. Or not. I don't see any reason to get heated about this stuff.

I reviewed my message and didn't notice any empty promises, just answered questions and honestly stated that we DO pass on information within IK all the time. Apologies if it seemed like there were empty promises or nefarious intentions as there were none intended. I think the thread has been great, with honest thoughts, ideas, and considerations that are always helpful to hear.

Jumped on Soundcloud and saw that Duke posted a file where he placed AMPKIT and JamUp into the INPUT slots of Audiobus. This allowed him to run both apps into the output slot of Audiobus which I never thought of doing.. pretty cool idea! To be honest, I don't spend a lot of time playing with Audiobus lately so I'm pretty far behind the learning/experimentation curve.

But he inspired me to make check this out on my own. I hope that future updates of JamUp/Ampkit/Amplitube will allow for dual amping within the app so we don't need to use Audiobus because this really fattens up the bass tone when using effects that suck some of the bass fundamentals from the sound. Using my iPhone4s running 2 inputs and Garageband shows the device is more than capable of handling the task of dual amping.

So is it TRS or standard 1/4 jack, this is very interesting, a couple of those Boss FS-6's and I could be on my way to an awesome modular super portable rig.

Also to everyone else, I appreciate IK and other builders/app companies being available to my questions I think if we keep bagging on them they won't stick around so maybe take it easy.
Please say there's two TRS assignable jacks and not just two TS jacks for expression pedals. I don't remember reading that in the discription. If true, I'm in. So much so, that if I can confirm it, I'd buying one right now.

While I'm hopeful that AmpliTube will become useful to me, and I'm sure they're working on it... I'm also a believe it when I see it kinda guy, too. I know they can't say much but if there was some kind of timeline posted. I might could hold off on buying another product. But... I do a lot of MIDI stuff. Since the Pro has no MIDI out, and there is no Lightning split/merge "Y" cable in existence so I can use the iRig MIDI with it, I may need to go to another product, anyway. I'm torn. The iRig pro with no MIDI out may be a deal buster for me.

I've seen vendors bug out when discussion had gotten to this point. I do admire them for sticking around

I actually also tried Amplitube, Ampkit and Jamup in the input slot. But triple amping is a bit too much. Hehe
My dream of dual amping came through, as I can use both Ampkit and Jamup at the same time in the input slot. Both send the signal
To the output slot. If one choose the speaker out option on the output slot both signal are mixed 50-50%
But using a DAW such as MTDAW/ Cubasis/ Auria extends the possibility with more control over the panning and volume of each "channel".
On my SC you can hear my Dual Amping iOD clip where I've used the SVT CL on Ampkit for nice lows and Hiwatt 103 on Jamup for crunchy mids and highs. I also add the Bassmaster in some parts. Really cool concept as one can keep one amp rather clean the othe thirty, or with chorus etc.
Optimally it would be nice if one could also run 2x Jamup etc so one could use only one app.

The motivation for dual amping is due to Chris Squire and his Ampeg plus Marshall mix, or Geddy with his Sansamps and orange AD200 mix.

I do not know what is worse, you guys passing on information from us, and not doing a thing for 1 - 2 years or not passing on the information and not doing a thing for 1 - 2 years.
When I say not doing a thing I refer to giving us more bass gear for iOS platform. I know you have other products which are great.
Btw, I never found that Amplitube pricing was wrong. I think Amplitube is priced right, same goes to Jamup and Ampkit. One thing is less convenient, and it is the fact that Amplitube iOS is split into iPhone and iPad versions.

Otherwise, it is nice to hear you guys are following this thread, which is the future.

I noticed that MTDaw places both apps into a channel where you can pan between. This is different from GarageBand which just took the 50/50 split which sounded good but I am going to experiment a bit with MTDAW as the outpu so I can change up the ratio a bit. This is a really useful technique for bass and I hope PG/IK and Agile all see this as a useful feature to add in future updates.

MTDAW can do multitrack recording, GB not. The nice thing about recording 1-3 bass track at once is that one have lots of possibilities later on on the mixing phase. Want bass plus fuzz without losing lows? No problem, run one amp clean, one with fuzz and blend the channels as one wish.

This is a great idea for those of us whose live tone resembles Sheehan. Although a clean blend is also possible with the Bassmaster in Jamup. Can't wait to try Ampkit and Jamup together at practice.

Looking at the Turnado manual, it looks like it's got a lot to offer in the effects area. Not much for cabinet modeling, though. I imagine that it could be very useful if combined with another App.

It's an interesting App, in my opinion, but to answer the question, I have not tried it... Yet.

It is not really an app for using with a bass. Better buy Galileo (Organ emulation) or Magellan synth and put it in the effect slot.you can buy both for the sum of Turnado
