$500 is an absolute brutal price to pay for an XD. I'm not knocking you but how did you justify paying that in the first place? I'm just curious.
It was for sale, I got a bonus, Ibought it.
0 have been for sale since IIRC. They were so hard to find and I could find that one.

Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. A year or two ago used Dingwall NGs and combustion were easily selling for the price of new or more by a few hundred dollars because the production backup was such that all pre-orders were spoken for and you were going to wait more than a year to get anything. That drove used prices up to match new or more for a 'right now' price.

I understand it too. I'd just be nervous trying to find another buyer at that same price though.
Keep in mind I bought the thing with every intent to keep it forever. Things changed.

It was a shock to see @Jon Muir ‘s XeroD in the classifieds for $500. But I recently did an off-line market test for a Moollon Jazz V priced at $3850 (the price of a recently posted 1983 AVRI Jazz bass)… Moollons tend to go for $2500, but are currently unobtainnium - like the XeroD. The feedback I got was “it’s just a bass.” I probably have 7 people who have emailed me saying they will buy it if I ever decide to sell the Moollon. Same is true for my 2 XeroDs, and a Fullerton AVRI P bass neck attached to a MJT body.
So, while I can relate to both the impulse to pay exorbitant fees for unobtainnium, and recoup the gouge, the Reverbification of prices on TB still abhors,

Yes… and I’ve lowered prices many times in the TB classifieds. I often think of price reduction like paying a rental fee.
Funny, I think of the fee I paid to post in the classifieds to be the only fee I need to pay.
NOTE - Doing my best to stay within the bounds and I am fairly certain I am not breaking any rules with this post...if so, mods, please let's figure out how to have some version of this concept to be posted. If people are allowed to freely talk about price gouging and pimping their listings, we should be allowed to have civil discourse and discuss the merits of the counterpoint.

I see this logic a lot..."it's what I paid for it" - which to me is a lame pass of the buck (and twice when I did some digging I found that the OP actually didn't pay the gouged price).
I feel like if you are gonna be that guy and charge that price, don't be apologetic about it, don't explain it...just do it and say, that's my price, if you don't like it move on. If you feel bad about it then don't do it...or take that BS to ebay or somewhere that is literally designed to sell it for the highest bidder. Why exploit a community? Talkbass wasn't designed so you can directly market inflated prices to fans.
Coming in to a thread of fan bois w an absurd price and saying you will "hook us up" w a direct sale or some such nonsense is kinda insulting. You aren't hooking anyone up with that price. If you got ripped off, that's your bad...passing it on to someone else is almost worse in my opinion. By buying it at the inflated price you send a signal to others that the price is gettable and acceptable, ruining it for pretty much everyone...but we are all free to do as we like. Free marekts and such...but this is like asking for a pat on the back or a pass.
I can't understand when people do that and then beg to be hooked up. There's a dude that sold 2...not one, but 2 Broughton Synth Voice Deluxe's within a month of each other each above cost...and dude is in the Broughton thread begging for someone to sell him the new preamp at cost. SMDH.
I want to feel bad for you that you got ripped off but I can't since it was your choice. I really hope that others are smart enough to wait out an XD at a fair price but this in of itself essentially ruins the chance that will happen.

Buying things when the price is inflated and selling for the inflated price isn’t price gauging. And it’s not that I’m not a fan of iron ether products. Worse case scenario is I keep the thing, which wouldn’t be the end of the world to me. I bought it thinking I would prefer it to my other filter, but I don’t. They’re different sounds, so I can make do with both. If you have a problem with the way I list my gear, I will happily not sell it to you.

I get it. It sucks to overpay. Even I have done it. I also get wanting to make your money back...it's just weaksauce to go and rip someone else off. Even in your classified you open up by saying don't hate me but....
I just think that crappy behavior is crappy. I have a lot of respect for the people who say I don't care, I want max dollars deal with it. Those people know who they are and they stand by it. If you aren't that guy, then don't be that guy.
It reminds me of that movie "Can't buy me love" - the geek becomes cool.and then the cools want him to throw dog poop at his best friend from his geek life. He does it...cause he wants to be cool...and then he expects the geek to forgive him. It's like no dude...it's A or B...not both.
You seem like a genuine guy and I get your position...I just can't pat you on the back for listing the pedal for $200 more on the verb than you laid and $100 more here than you paid...and what you paid was already almost double what Taylor charges. It's just all icky.

This is pure comedy. Evan, respectfully, you wrote a lot of fluff without really saying much, especially nothing that, even your own points circled to support, had anything to do with the listing. Are you in the market for the xd? If not, there is no reason to spout this nonsense to begin with. If you are/were, why weren’t you on top of the last sale to get it at retail? You’ve clearly been in here a while, I’d find it surprising you’d be in either category. Xd prices have been creeping up to the offered price for some time, unsurprisingly, given the quality and recent component shortage which prevents more models into circulation. Textbook supply and demand. Hopefully your research on more pressing matters is not as poor as your quest to debunk the price the seller had paid.
