I'm trying real hard to stop myself from commenting on the bi-weekly "price gouging/selling for too much" but I'll say this.. It's a shame the microchip shortage has created this two fold situation where there are less pedals being made and the used market goes crazy because of it. These Iron Ether pedals, like many from other brands, are awesome and people shouldn't be in a situation where they have to pay so much for a chance to try one because Taylor didn't price 'em that way.. Overpaying creates situations where some people won't like the pedal they overpaid for and then pass the buck on to the next (un)lucky guy and the cycle continues until someone takes a loss or new pedals enter the market.

I won't go further into it, even if I don't mind this kind of discussion, because this poor horse has been beat to s**t enough already, at least for this weekly episode. I'm a cards on the table kinda guy about things like this.. I think this kind of discussion should be encouraged within a community, when done in a respectful and constructive way. Many people here have made great points and TB is awesome place to discover and share about a common passion for us. Pricing is something that affects anyone participating.

In a live setting I don't have the time nor do the bands I play with want someone kneeling down to fiddle with pedals between songs...or in some cases if you use different tones in the same song that's impossible. Also with the XD a very small adjustment has huge tonal consequences, so if you're in between songs and aren't trying to quack like a duck over the PA to get the vibe exactly dialed in for a new sound, it's not going to be a winner.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with discussing that here, given we all own and like Taylor's pedals. In my case, unfortunately it's relegated my XD to home and studio use.

I completely understand the why not wanting to have to fiddle with a pedal during a set or that kind of thing. If I was to gig nowdays, I'd probably be looking into that sort of functionality. Most people used to just have 2 pedals of the same effect/effect type if they needed 2 tones of the same type. Now multis are way better than they used to be. I know very well Iron Ether pedals are very wide ranging in their tones and easy to make sound not the way you want because of a slight touch of a knob so I get that part and my comment was slightly in jest. You can't have presets for everything! :laugh:The C4 and other multis has got you hooked on it!

I just think it's fine that some builders are not going that way and other companies are totally nailing that segment of the market.

If you want that oh so sweet Xero wobble there ain't 2 ways to do it though! Come on you can fit a Xero and an HX Stomp and a C4 on a board haha. You can do it!:bassist:

I completely understand your point and I think my reply to doran can answer your post as well because your opinions seem parallel. Of course it's perfectly fine to discuss it here! Where else haha!

sorry, you are right, it is a well-tenderized carcass, but this one hit new lows (highs?) in the money grab and I was gobsmacked at the price. I'm glad i have all the IE pedals i want (except for Arcing Prisms which came out the 1 day i didn't read email or check TB).

obl IE content: when i first got the Polytope pedal i mistakenly dismissed it as better for guitar then bass, but in the last few months i've had it on my pedalboard and I really like the sound - it has replaced my old school tc chorus/flanger pedal from the 80s. What settings do TB'ers use on it? I have it set to a kind of gentle chorusy sound that gives some depth to legato notes, and I know that cranking the detune can lead to some crazy nausea inflicting sea-sickness, but i haven't gone too much past what is shown here.

Yeah. It is in much better condition than the one I have too and may the only pedal I actually want to buy a second or a backup for but I just bought a Blooper yesterday so just can't.

I want it though. Lucky for someone else I have bought 4 pedals (*edit oh yeah forgot the QF2, it was actually 5 pedals) in the last few weeks and need to stop somewhere. Buying seconds is definitely that somewhere today.

The MIDI rabbit hole that Blooper looks like it will be sending me down finally though.....

My plan is to save all my Iron Ether money for whatever Taylor comes up with next, or an Arcing Prisms, once it's available again.

I'm so glad I picked up my XD, Polytope, Nimbus SE, DubT and others when they were first released. I sold my Nimbus V1, Subterranea and FMeron for regular used prices when the market was still sane. Recently I was lucky enough to score a side jack Oxide, then found a top jack version a couple of weeks later, each for under US$130. Admittedly that's an amazing price, but $350 for an Oxide or $500 for a XD is pure insanity. Crazy times.

Out of caution, I think his horse made a U-turn after seeing what happened to the last one.



(Note: I think the price is fine and is lower than the other one so I am not knocking that in any way.)
