The last time I saw Sleep, whatever envelope he was using wasn't dialed in properly. I could hear it open the whole time in the Dragonaut solo, rather than sweeping. XD is similarly hard to dial in-the line between massive sweep and no sweep at all is tough to find sometimes, at least with my rig.

I heard similar sounds as well seeing them live. I was able to see 3 of their lives shows post-The Sciences release. I did see the Chicago Iron wah on stage at the last show I saw them at (possibly the Albany, NY show). But the live instances of filter and phase use was very much different live.

Fuzz before filter for me… and the Starlight Echo Station *is* interstellar. Fuzz Bass Echo is the schiz for the space rock I do.

If I had a bigger board, I'd love to have more dirt after filter and modulation. But after lugging a 2 row board for a few weeks, for my current gig, it doesn't make sense.

@Matt Dean put me onto modulation — phaser, really — before a filter. I always had modulation after filtering. But it's good this way. And I use them together so seldom it probably makes no practical difference.

kidding aside, I'd be interested to know how you guys would order these... until now I always had them SubT->XeroD->Frantabit->Polytope->Nimbus, but your input is valuable, especially about placing the Polytope, as I don't have any amp at home to test various orders, and when I'm at my rehearsal place, which is far and I have limited access to, well, I usually just play with other people.

I know the pedals were thought as various components of a synth chain, but dunno what chain order that is really... :laugh:

Same and also that's an interesting idea for the Polytope. It's easy to think of the Polytope as a chorus but it can do so much more than that. The more I learn about synth chains, I realize how common it is to slightly detune one oscillator from the other for a "fattening" effect, and now I wonder if I can do the same with the Polytope in the loop of my DubT

Think I'll go SubT -> Frantabit -> XeroD -> Polytope -> Nimbus (maybe switch Polytope before Xero, will do some tests with headphone even if that's not very beefy sounding...).

Since I'm preparing the board for an eventual Arcing Prisms purchase, even if it is a year from now, where would you place that? Just before the Nimbus?
