I think this is right on. If anyone should auction off these pedals, it should be the guy who builds them. At least the properties of economics can pay the creator here. This is truly the best way to deal with flippers. Totally sucks for us regular folks who just want to buy a pedal though.
All right just so this is fair and balanced, everybody is going to need to submit their bid to me, I'll organize it on a spreadsheet..

I would support a raffle at cost, this is going to get pretty crazy, and honestly end up on Flipverb when all said is done.
Hopefully a true fan gets its, and uses it -

I have a lot of thoughts about this but I want to encourage folks to share their opinions with me. With the parts shortages, things have been really difficult, and frankly the business is in a rough spot. My goal with this is not to move to only selling via auctions in the future - I just want to keep things going until the supply chain stuff stops making everything so hard. I hope that I don't lose anyone's respect over this - hopefully folks will get where it's coming from.

I'm still on the fence about it. Yes, the money goes directly to the builder. I'm all for that but doesn't it commend the scalped prices? Just watch this thing go for $$$$$. It's going to be right at or near the high prices we've been witnessing on Reverb over the last couple years. It kind of contradicts the "selling of an IE pedal at a fair price".
Raffle, or use it to buy the chips and whatnots, even if they're over priced, let these auctions soak up the difference
EDIT: sorry, I meant to say raffle, raffle one off @ msrp - if you need cash I'm sure some of us could scrounge up a few bucks

Imagine struggling to keep your business going and seeing someone sell your pedals for a profit that exceeds yours. I applaud Taylor and hope he can continue to make great pedals.
It's also a one off so why is anyone crying about it? Maybe he should sign it and write 1 or 1 on it to make it ok. He's a small shop and not MXR. We all know what will happen to those prices if he goes out of business.

This is probably the worse possible time to do this, but I've been exploring the SubT lately, having many other octaves it's a little redundant.
Thinking about trading to a Arching Prism, Divaricator or DubT - works very nicely, one could call it 2 or 3 pedals in one, easy. Nice and analog too -

I understand his reasoning. I'm not knocking that. I'm just saying it's not going to help the high prices on the used market.

As an English teacher, I spend most days imploring kids to read instructions. Call this a learning experience for me.
Seems like a good idea until regularish production kicks back in.
What I am not sure I understand is whether this is a one off "for good" or if there will be several auctions in the near future?
I mean, they're at least slightly special versions and if they're going to keep the business aloft, then sure. We regular types may lose the checker game of getting one, but if it keeps the lights on in the future so we can get them, that seems like a win in the chess game.
I like the raffle idea over auction but understand times are tough. One of my favorite builders is on an indefinite hiatus due to the shortages and I know there are others that closed up shop as well.
All that said, the auction rollout was a bit of a shock but understandable. I hope the auctions will help the business remain a going concern until supplies are more readily available. I vote raffle, even if there is no poll. OR(!) silent auction where the final selling price is NOT disclosed.
And screw covid.
AND Please sell some T-shirts, Taylor. Many shops available now that handle the distribution so you won’t even have to deal with it.

You could really dive deep into whether or not this is a good move. But I don't know Taylor's "situation" and how detrimental IE is to his income ect. (nor is it my buisness) to judge such thing.
But what I do wonder, I haven't kept up with it that much, what components are needed at the moment for this kind of work? surely with a community this big, if it impacts it so much, someone out there has to have leads to source out what's needed, or a comparable substitute. NOS, things shelved before the shortage, or a lead to something new - I'd be sending notice "So many chips found = 1 new pedal!!" lol

There's a chip used in all my current pedals that is only available from one supplier, there is no substitute that would work, and every time I place an order, the wait is several-to-many months long, with only a vague idea from the supplier when they'll ship. As a tiny one-person operation, my buying power is limited and the supplier won't let me order in larger amounts than I typically would.
That's not the only difficulty - every time I go to order parts, some things I need are unavailable and I have to find substitutes for my substitutes at this point - but it's the big show-stopper.
For the greater IE good I'm alright with an auction here and there, though I do like the idea of the silent auction that was mentioned.
Dang, you build so many models revolving around one part, never to think one day the manufacturer will only talk to big order buyers, that is a hard spot. I don't want to pry about what it is, but I get it. I have noticed (I always look at the guts before I even plug them in) some guys that have been around, the insides almost always look different from one build to the other. You wouldn't know it just listening, but components, arrangements, always evolving
I get it. I won't be bidding but I hope it makes you a bucket of dough.
A while back you had talked about potentially developing new stuff with parts you've got available. Did anything ever come of that?
Maybe it's a little cynical but you could put out a Big Muff or another Brassmaster type fuzz, presumably from easier to get components, and charge whatever you wanted and we'd be lining up. The COVIDator Fuzz Device, crushing dreams $275 at a time since 2022.
