I had the intention of throwing in a bid to help Taylor get some more monies but now I see that will not be necessary lol...
But what would? People are divided over the practice of scalping and many of those who complain about it actually don't mind it (and do it themselves) but at much less offensive margins. Price gouging would happen behind the scenes if it was something that was frowned upon in public, but in forums like this and marketplaces like eBay/reverb...you are protected from even social ridicule. Some pedal builders will go the extra mile to cancel orders from known flippers, but that's like throwing a glass of water in the ocean.
Personally, I don't see the difference between someone selling something for $20 more than they paid or $500 more...it's still an upcharge. Just cause you do a little bit of naughty doesn't make it nice, ya dig? I'd even argue the guy who only charges $20 is dumb...it's like robbing a bank but leaving a few bags of money behind to make yourself feel better.
At least in this instance, it keeps the pedal builder in business and the money doesn't go to some middleman. I don't see how anyone could be mad at this. It's surprising that builders of in demand stuff don't do this. I am happy to see it.
My reign at the top of the leaderboard was short-lived. All hail Murphy! Seriously though, some good builders have gone out of business this year or are on hiatus so if auctions are what it takes to allow them to fight another day and more of us to enjoy their creations then I'm happy to help/fight with Murphy to fund that. I'd rather pay Taylor than Reverb if I can. So, I need to go back to the drawing board and figure out how painful import VAT and customs duties would be...
Also, apologies all if this message renders weirdly. I usually lurk in the classifieds wishing more North Americans would ship unobtanium to the UK rather than weighing in on threads.

But personally, I'd rather do a lotto/raffle, whomever wins pays msrp. If ya need funding for the biz run a go fund me, that way people could add what they can and each feel that they've helped, and put a little into the "cause"

I'm 100% good with this. Is it for everyone? No. But someone who is willing to pay the big bucks will get an nice pedal, and the profit is going to the business owner so he can keep the business running, instead of lining the pockets of some scalper. Win/win in my books.

Nobody needs to buy an IE pedal. Want, maybe, but need, nope.
Conversely, some folks need to sell IE pedals. Taylor is the prime example as his pedal-related livelihood depends on it. And there was a good man on here not so long ago who needed to liberate cash and sold his IE pedals at a very reasonable rate.
For those who need to sell, I hope it brings in the cash you need.
Taylor, your auction is open and honest, and I wish you well.

I've got to say, this sounds like an absolutely fantastic idea for IE.
Supply chains / manufacturing are in the toilet right now (my business has been waiting for coming up on a year for one product to get made) and flipping seems to be reaching new heights all the time.
So, auctions will pretty much rule out the unlucky and the folks that can only afford mrsp for the time being but that's the case with limited runs plus scalpers anyway.
At least this way Taylor gets the money, IE gets to continue and in the future we will all be able to get some incredible pedals!

I'll add that while I had no intention of selling my Arcing Prisms with the auction being where it is, there is something I have had my eye on for $800....that I'd part with my Arcing Prisms in an instant for. If you aren't into the bidding thing but think $800 is a deal for this one hit me up (I'll cover the shipping

As a collector, I get the GAS w this auction but as a musician/pedal geek...Arcing Prisms is unique but $700+ is a lot to spend for these non traditional sounds...and maybe some of you bidders are starting to build up in your head some sounds this thing might make that it won't. I am the last person to call a pedal unusable in a musical sense...but I am curious what some of the active bidders think this pedal sounds like...if you are in fact chasing it as a pedal instead of just a trophy. Like Charlie Tuna suggested, my reason for bidding was driven more by support for the builder. There’s undoubtedly a part of me that would enjoy the pedal from a collector’s perspective, I won’t deny that, but there is also a thrill to be had from helping a talented manufacturer stay in business.
I’ve read TB for a long time but only recently signed up to comment and I’ve really enjoyed reading through the threads and feeling part of a community, the moreso when Taylor and the likes of Josh Broughton and Nathan at Sushibox wade into the threads too. Pedal collecting (and use) has become an important hobby to me over the last couple of years and it’s been a shame to witness manufacturers cease operating or put no timeframe on returning.
I haven’t been lucky enough to snag an IE pedal before but I would like obtaining one to continue to be an option in the future. I’m sure that the amounts being bandied around look crazy, and perhaps it is idiotic, but it’s a level of idiocy that I’m happy with. Hopefully wherever things end up will mean that we all win if more pedals get made, and some lucky person will get a pedal this time round to boot too.
I recently sold an FMeron on Reverb asking only what I paid for it. Great Pedal but not the sound I was looking for. I was asking in the mid 300 range including shipping. It sold in about 1 minute after posting. It is now on Reverb for $540.00 plus shipping from Calif. So, whoever buys it is buying from a profiteer not a fan of Iron Either products. Just a little heads up.
yeah if I ever sell anything like that it's on TB or similar places, there are more chances of it being actually played... plus you might know the buyer from the effects forums(edit: not suggesting you did anything wrong! reverb flippers are just a sad sign of current times)
