4 poles on, forgot to change that, but b4 nothing. Found the absolute main culprit was the clip switch on the clam, middle is NO good, it's so crazy how it makes the XD just disappear, now clip switch to the bottom, everything sounds great, even with alot of filter post.

Yea, middle position is too middy and not enough high frequency content. The other toggles seem to reduce the mids and put back in the HFs. Glad it helped out, it drove me crazy for a bit as well and I’m glad we can find use for it in conjunction with the XD now.

I'm getting a subterranea, and removing my studio boost, would that be ok in front of the XD? I like having options and I don't have any octave/synth in front of the XD, does that sequence work well?

No, that won’t work at all, you need to send it to me. J/k, lucky you! The SubT and XD should be a match made in heaven. Others can chime in with real life experience but I believe that will be great.

This seems to work great, I would think the sens and frequency would be subjective to instrument though, I know if I change basses things change for sure

I posted that as a possibly of what I would have on, the calamity is my pre fuzz, Maestro post fuzz, but with the paraeq and rfe off, the only thing holding back on bandpass is the S1, messenger is just for headphones.

I am noticing the maestro down stream isn't that noticeable, but a brassmaster is super choked anyway? Maybe the range is too tight to get a nice sweep.

Gotcha. Still a dynamic fuzz (or a ton of gain in general) will really require you to dial in (down) the sensitivity on the filter. If hitting the XD with a clean signal is getting you the desired envelope sound, popping on the fuzz is going to kind of obliterate that input stage and make the XD sound way more open and less noticeable. Even if you have the Calamity set to unity gain, that’s way more harmonic content pushing the filter. If you’re adding more fuzz after, that may mask that filter sound even more.

YMMV, but I’m partial to more synthy/velcro type fuzz into filters, versus muff style fuzzes. May be worth swapping the Maestro and Calamity to see how that sounds.

Got my Xerograph Deluxe today... some of you IE veterans have probably heard this one before, but I initially thought it was broken. Turns out my ideas of how to set it were broken! The manual is not joking around when it says "The controls have a wider range than is commonly found in effects pedals."

I have two main basses that are very different from each other (scale, pickups, material, etc.) and I have tiny marks on my XD to differentiate between my two preferred settings for each and the marks are not far apart but make a pretty substantial change in sound from bass to bass.

I got mine today at 5pm, and at 6:30 I was at band practice with it. I had literally five minutes to get it on my board, get the expression pedal set up, and dial in a usable envelope sound.

It was next to my Microtron IV all night. On a Cissy Strut jam I went back and forth. I think I can get close to my favorite sound from the Mutron with the XD, and there is a whole wider range of stuff I'm looking forward to finding. It sounds great.

For me, it seemed pretty easy to get a solid sound dialed in, but then I've watched videos about it and went and read a great post from . . . someone . . . in this thread explaining control interactions.

I use an envelope filter on Sissy Strut too. I use it in the middle jam part.

SENSitivity: ... Try playing soft and hard and everything in between. Where do you feel like you have the most control of the opening and closing? This is different for everybody but I like it around the 3 o'clock position. In the UP mode you'll see on a lot of filters the lines on the Sensitivity and Frequency knobs point at each other. Find your personal sweet spot. If the sound is too bright or snappy then the filter is opening too easily so you need to reduce the sensitivity.

***I want to make a quick note/afterthought on the position for the SENS knob. I shouldn't have put in a setting (3 o'clock in this instance). Depending on the strength of the signal and other effects in front I'm now typically running it from 9 o'clock to 3 o'clock but usually somewhere in between 10 and 2. When I use it with a dry bass signal the Sensitivity is higher than if I use a fuzz or fuzz/octave in front. In any case "Find your personal sweet spot." Is what is important and know that sweet spot can change based on the signal going in. Also, changing your bass' EQ and even volume knob can yield much different results from the pedal. Hope this helps!***

I guess I've gotten accustomed to pedals that only affect a relatively small part of the frequency range of an electric bass. The XD can sweep across that whole spectrum and then some.

Manual sweep with my Moog EP-3 is so nice, especially with fuzz. I really like the way you can dial in Freq and Exp for the exact range that you want.
