Iron Ether Subterranea

Mine came in today. I haven't had much time with it yet but can say this thing is awesome. So many options!

I can see that one of the best ways to make it shine is with varying downstream effects, particularly filters. I've already had some fun running it into a 3Leaf Audio proton. It helps make the filter even more touch sensitive (in a good way).

Thanks for the cool pedal Taylor.

Cheers

Ben

Yeeeehaaa!

Just got mine (upgrade) in today too Ben!
They might have been sitting together on the plane over to Brisvegas......
What would one SubT say to the other on a long flight......?

Anyhoo, gonna be playin with it tonight :)

I bet they were chatting up a storm. Who knows what they were talking about but I imagine it was a low rumble ;)

I've been playing around with it for a bit and I'm finding the synth tones work best with the filters etc after. I can't imagine using any of the synth sounds I've found so far without something downstream to soften the 'distortion'. However I'm loving the versatility of the octave with filter function. It's like an OC 2 with options.

Not sure if it'll bump my OC2 or not yet. It might be nice to use the 2 for separate sounds without the need to fiddle.

What sort of cool stuff are you discovering?

Anyway back to it. There's so much to uncover here :D

Cheers

Ben

I find that the square wave unisynth setting sounds pretty good even without any filtering later down the chain if you combine it with the clean octave down. I tend to agree when it comes to the other wave shapes though!

Certainly so far I am loving the combination of a downstream dose of Oxide, Outlaw or Verellan Big Spider plus filter some sweeps with the Xero for good measure. Can't wait to crank this through an amp loud, it's gonna be brutal!

I'm in the same camp with the OC-2.
Best just to hang on to it.....
I might do some modding to it thx to this thread
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f36/oc-2-clipping-1027629/
as i find mine clips a bit too.
My OC-2 is on a small board for dubby reggae stuff anyhoo.
The Sub-T replaces my MXR BOD (which is another great octave too IMO) on my big board.

Anyway, loving the Sub-T :)
Another ripping pedal from Taylor and thanks to Don for doing the upgrade!

So I've played around with it a bit more and have found a few settings using the synths (with or without the clean oct) that I could potentially use. BUT I'm really digging it with these settings into my Darkglass Vintage. It just seems to warm up and smooth out the edges making it more fuzz like.

I think it's going to take a while to suss this pedal out. Good thing its so much fun!!!!

OK, yesterday was a weirdly funny jam. The first with the SubT and a rainbow machine.

Be aware this is experimental fully improvised jam. Only me and drummer which have a wave drum looped as well from time to time.

Effect used: Sansamp PBBDI, IE SubT, Gorija fuzz mangler, IE Xero dlx, Mantic Hulk pro, Mantic Proverb et Ohnoho Utter stutter (all pedals in the feedback loop)

Sorry for the noise but the Subt is FAT (cannot really hear it since I recorded with a H2 in the midle of the room)

Hey Taylor

You mentioned a while back that you thought the SubT could help approximate this tone (with additional effects). I've had a go (because it's a great tone) and was wondering if you think the filter is in a parallel loop. If I have the filter downstream from the SubT it seems to take the edge off the upper wave forms too much.

Great sounding pedal you've made here. I can't wait to try some of the sounds that other people come up with.

Cheers

Ben

I am looking for a pedal that can sound like the bass-synth in this song:

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Do you think the Subterranea is capable of that?
Thanks

I think that by mixing all four voices together and maybe adding a little filter and detune could get you quite close, yes.

Glad you guys are having fun with the Sub!

Listening to that clip, first it sounds very tight in the dynamics. Perhaps a gated fuzz after the Sub, with a clean blend, would help give that quick on/off dynamic feel. A filter with a clean blend might get you the parallel sound you mention, but to me it just sounds like the filter is set fairly high with little modulation. Don't know if that helps but I hope so!

Thanks Taylor

I'll have a go with my oxide between the SubT and XeroDlx. I'm sure I'll find some cool sounds no matter what!

Cheers

Yeah man there's a whole world just there. I find something I like and tweak away till I'm happy. Then I move one dial or my expression pedal or something and find another flavour and I'm off again.

I'm digging running the sounds through a TC Flashback as well. Electronica all the way! I have no idea how I'm going to set my board up:eek:

By the way, what band are you using these sounds in?

Cheers

Ben

That's the way I roll it Ben. Sounds mighty huge!

Jam tomoz! Get to unleash the beast at full throtle :hyper:

The more I experiment the more I agree with this. There's a lot in there and I really need to hear some of these sounds in the mix to see if they work or not. I'm really liking having the DG Vintage afterwards to smooth out the top end 'distortion' sounds. It calms it down and allows it to be more subtle.

I gotta say with all the cool sounds I'm finding there is going to be some serious tweaking required to pull off the sounds live!

Cheers
