Iron Man 2

I love comic book movies and so I'm looking forward to seeing this one as I really enjoyed the first film. That said, I think it's going to really struggle to top "The Dark Knight" (whilst agreeing that the DK took itself just a tad too seriously, perhaps).

As a kid I was into Marvel stuff and never really read DC comics, so I was surprised to dig the Batman movie as much as I did.

Anyway, FWIW, here's some of my favourites in a very approximate order...

Dark Knight.
Iron Man, even though Jeff Bridges sucks in every film I've ever seen him in, imho.
Spiderman 1 and 2 (both about the same, imo).
Batman (1989 version)
Daredevil with Ben Affleck (seems a bit under-rated to me).
Watchmen - not too bad.
Batman Begins is probably round about here in this list.
The old Superman movies with Christopher Reeves are pretty classic, even though they're cheesy.
Spiderman 3 - nowhere near the first two, imo, but still entertaining.
Both Hulk movies - some people hated the first and loved the second, I thought they were both okay and worth watching.
The Fantastic 4 movies sucked badly, as did Batman Returns, Batman Forever, Batman and Robin...

I haven't mentioned the 60's Batman spoof as it doesn't really belong with the others, but I loved it for what it was.

Missed that. I stopped reading comics after the Spiderman clone fiasco.

They ended-up loosing all continuity with the characters and looked to gimmicks to increase sales.

I ended up leaving comics to go to anime & manga where characters for the most part stay dead, do change sexes and creators maintain control over their properties. No foil covers or new armor raise sales.

I like the Iron Man flicks because they do have that level of comic humour, which the recent batman flicks have certainly been missing.

My favourite comic book film, whilst not being one of the most popular has to be The Punisher (the Tom Jane one). While being serious in many parts, it still has that comic humour to it. The newest Punisher flick is alright too. And the Dolph Lundrum one, well, that's just hilarious!.

In regards to the Hulk flicks, I though the Ed Norton one was great, Tim Roth was an amazing bad guy. Gotta love the Lou Ferrigno cameos

Off topic:

IMO, The Dark Knight hurt itself by being too long. I agree with the New York Times critic who said that last forty-five minutes of explosions were overkill. I also thought that the DA becoming Two-Face by walking out the hospital bed with half his face burned off was too much of a suspension of disbelief. In a movie that prided itself on being realistic and serious, such a obvious comic book turn was glaring.

That's why the light tone of Iron Man 2 made it great "summer" entertainment!

The Big Lebowski wasn't a really bad film, but it wasn't as great as some folks say, in my view. I watched it just once and have no urge to see it again. As always, YMMV...

I'm glad to see somebody say this. The Dark Knight was an excellent movie, and Heath Ledger did a phenomenal job but I agree that it was about 30-45 minutes too long and I didn't buy the two-face character either.

Regarding Iron Man 2, you're right on point. It's a good, old fashioned summer popcorn move -- loads of fun and worth the price of admission!

Saw it. It was ok. There were a couple things that bothered me.

-Where did Rhodey get an arc reactor to power the Mark II suit?
-How did Rhodey know how to expertly pilot the Mark II and use all it's tech in 30 seconds?
-How did they manage to make the final showdown between good and evil even shorter than in the first movie?


Oh and who stayed after the credits and saw the setup for the Thor movie?

Saw it. Didn't like it as much as the first one. Didn't hate it though. And I agree, the finale with Whiplash was way way too brief. Mickey O'Rourke's talents were totally wasted on a way too marginal script. Sam Rockwell, who is another great actor, was also wasted in the weak Hammer role.

OK, just to clarify, I'm kinda the resident gay bass player in these parts. That said... Scarlett Johannsen?????? Smokin' hot! Something like that hitting on me? I might have to reconsider things... if only for a few hours

My son and I went to see it tonight. It was okay. Stayed after the credits and saw Thor's hammer.

Agree on the final showdown... had a let's wrap this puppy feel to it... way too short.

Starman. Crazy Heart. The Big Lebowski. The Door in the Floor. The Last Picture Show. Tron. The Fabulous Baker Boys. Against All Odds.

Not a bad resume.
