is 100 more watts worth 50 bucks

okay im buying a new amp and im choosing between
the acoustic 100watt combo with a 15inch speaker for 249
and the acoustic 200watt combo with a 15inch speaker for299

i read on tb that speakers matter more than watts
so is the 200watts worth 50 more bucks
would it be eny louder?

Volume wise it wouldn't be a whole hell of a lot louder, but it will give you more clean headroom.

yeah def. buy it and spend the extra $50 since the 100w is pretty much not going to cut through in a band practice should you use it for that.

There's a law of diminishing returns with power. At that low of wattage, yes, the extra 100 watts is going to be noticable. If we were talking about 1800 watts versus 1900 watts, then not so much.

+1. if you would have asked if $50 more dollars for twice the power is worth it, i think it's a no brainer. going from 500 to 600 watts isn't that big of a difference, but going from 100 to 200 is.

200 watts is where decent, giggable bass power begins. For $50 the only answer is yes. Someday it'll be a good backup amp for you.

Roughly 10 times the wattage is needed to double sound output (with the same speakers). So a 100 watt amp would be twice as loud as a 10 watt amp. While it would take 1000 watts to double the 100 watt, 200 watts would be more noticeable than going from 500 watts (5000 watts needed) to 600 watts.

an extra 50 to 100watts isn't gonna make a big difference if you are adding it to 500watts, but if you are only starting with 100watts then you are effectively doubling it, which will make a difference, so yes you should definitely do it.

doubling the power increases SPL by 3 dB, all other things being equal.

Just make sure that the combo lets you add an extension cabinet without turning off the combo's speaker. Don't laugh, that's what the Fender combos do. I don't know what the Acoustic combos do.
