Is 2 1x15 cabs a bad idea?

I seriously doubt your Xmax for the Bag End. There is no way they could handle the power and move air like they do if that was the case. I suspect they are close to the Delta Pro which is in the 4mm range.

I had trouble believing it too, but that is the info sent to me from one of the techs at bagend. I didn't pull that number out of thin air, here is the email.

Hello Mike,

The S15-D uses our E-15 driver. The T-S parameters available are:

RE = 5.8 ohms
FS = 35.52 Hz
QT = .280
VAS = 12.16 cu. ft.
CMS = .3343 mm/N
MMS = 60.06 grams
XMAX = 1.80 mm

Hopefully, this will help you.

Best regards,
Dan Saraceno

After all this info is taken into account, I must still say that my bags are amazing cabs and have done very well for me in small venues. (>150 cap. unless the room is very odd shaped with horrible acoustics)

Cool, thanks for posting that info. I thought from your previous post that you had calculated the #. Very interesting that these cabs perform so well - they got some sharp folks working there!

end of cabinet gas forever. except maybe a third for my 800RB.

that 1.8mm xmax is a surprise, but maybe that's a factor in why they sound so good-- I guess the ability to flap back and forth at extreme distances doesn't seem to be the best way to get good tone.

I wouldn't carry the logic too far and get three 15s. I tried that many years ago, running two at 4 ohm with a 200 watt amp, and a third at 8 ohm with a 150 watt amp. The extra 15 did nothing for volumn and the overall tone went south. Went quickly back to just two 15s. Personal preference though is yours, not the forums'. Get what you like.

:cool: Clearly you weren't playing them in an orange room... :o

if the three fifteens were matched drivers and cabs, the sound should have been an improvement. Mismatched amps and cabs could really be a problem with phase cancellation.

Have you pulled out a 9v from your smoke detector and checked polarity? What amp did you power them with?

The other problem with getting that other 15" up in the air is that you might be hearing your own mistakes better, including inconsistencies in your volume across the strings... I find that this happens to me all the time! :help:
