Is anyone else playing Wordle?

I play it most days when I think about it. I'm highly amused at the backlash on Facebook about people posting their results, though. It's a perfect example of how there will always be a group that can't deal with anything being popular and has to rally around a contrary position.

This is literally a game that takes two minutes out of anyone's day, cannot be obsessed over like some internet or gaming stuff, yet there are still people all self-righteous about it. Cracks me up.

It tells you if a letter you guess is in the word, and if you get the letter in the right position it will tell you that, too. So it's more like a process of elimination.

If you've ever played this game, it's basically the same thing, but with letters:

I'd never heard of this game before I saw this thread. Just tried the game for the 1st time a few minutes ago.

1st guess = 3 gray and 2 yellow letters.

I thought about some possibilities for about 2 minutes until I came up with a word that fit.

2nd guess = correct answer.



I like this game. I'm a big fan of scrabble but obviously Wordle only takes a couple of minutes and is played solo.

Best case, I've gotten the solution in under 5 minutes. Sometimes I spend up to an hour running all the letter combinations in my head. Only been stumped once.

That's a great site.

I did 4 random words and solved all of them in 3 guesses. But I took my time (about 7 to 10 minutes each) and used some strategy involving frequency of letter usage.

Seeing Wordle immediately reminded me of a PC video game I bought many years ago for my great-niece and great-nephew. The game is Bookworm Adventures, and one of the mini-games is Word Master:

I just heard about this last week. Tried it for the first time now. I guessed the word in 4 tries. Beginners luck?? OK now I can say I tried it. I'm not a big word puzzle fan. I'm too sydlexic.

I used to be dyslexic. But now I'm K.O...

I've been playing it. It's a fun way to kill five minutes and to also get the brain juices flowing. I appreciate that it is only one game a day.

If you like Wordle and you would like to play more than once a day, check this out. Be forewarned, this would be the addictive version.

It doesn't give you something to share and only keeps track of your winning streak.

There's math, memory tests, comprehension, etc.

Yeah, they announced it 2 weeks ago. For now it appears it will remain free. I'm curious how long before they ruin it by requiring an NYT Games subscription.

I'm intrigued by how much the wordle site sold for recently. How does that site make any money? No ads.

It doesn't make any money. No signup, so no spam. No ads. Nothing.

A guy named Josh Wardle designed it for him and his wife to play during the lockdown and it grew a life of its own. It's been free and he's made nothing this whole time. It doesn't even have a Wordle.com web address. Totally baller.

Now that the New York Times has decided to capitalize on its incredible popularity, it will become a part of their games page. We should expect (so many) ads. But the NYT is quoted as being more interested in drawing the millions of players to its online space. Their games page is pretty decent, but requires a subscription. I'm curious to see how it goes (and if/how they inevitably ruin it).
