Is anyone else playing Wordle?

I'm a high school English teacher, and when the students first started playing, I thought it was a passing fad. Now, it's like some strong addiction, and they play and discuss it throughout the day (to the point of causing them to sometimes get too off-task). I'm torn between telling them to stop or encourage it, as it is a spelling-related game (and strangely, I worry if I show too much interest, I may turn them off to it).

I use AUDIO as my starting word, so far so good.

I change my first word every day. Makes it more fun & not formulaic. And some days, I luck into some pretty nice surprises.

Same. I'm at 31. I should have gotten today in 2 or 3. I had all but the 4th letter. Ended up taking me 5 bc all I could do was keep guessing.

I gave in to curiosity and tried Wordle last week... I'm a perfect 11/11 since I started It's a fun little diversion each morning at coffee break, but I'm not as obsessive over this thing as some of my friends and family members appear to be I'll see how long I can keep my streak going and then probably forget about it.

If I get it in 6 I consider it a win. Usually I'm 4-5 with a few in 2-3. I've been stumped a couple times though.

Wordle now comes with "ad trackers". I use Safari which blocks them so I pretty much don't care. They seem benign. But still.

Yeah it seems to be getting more tricksterish. Today I had all but one letter in guesses five and six and still didn't get it.

That was me yesterday. Had 4 letters early and the word was the least likely of all the options. Welcome to the New York Times.

Now that we know how to think about it, perhaps it will be easier. Get most of the letters, think of the most obscure word you can make and that will be the correct one.

Aw man. I don't want unlimited play. I like the once a day vibe. I'm obsessive about enough things, I don't need another… lol.

Today took me five tries; yesterday I got it in two. AGORA (a week ago?) was nearly my undoing. I didn't even know that was a word. It doesn't help that sometimes I forget that words can begin with vowels haha.

My starting word is always the same, and I just know that if I ever change it, even once, that will be the word of the day.

I've also discovered that hard mode is in some ways easier. Forces me to play offense rather than defense, as it were.

Interesting story about that word. When the NYT took over, there was a single day when people got one of two different words. AGORA and AROMA. It was a glitch, but thankfully, I got AROMA. (whew!)

Haha. That one took me 3. I had zero letters on the first try and 1 letter on the 2nd. VIViD was the only word I could come up with on the remaining letters. I was laughing when I got it right. But yeah… NYT is being sneaky.
