Is everyone okay??

Just returned from a weekend bombing run… so yes, droppin’ heavy tones keeps me happy

A few of those things you listed, I can't even fathom. I'm sure at least one would break me. I'm always mad impressed when people can take a round of artillery shells from life, drag themselves back to their feet and come back at it.

Additionally, I believe that you're doing the only right thing you can do in keeping church and state separate. That's not only kind, that's smart.
This... is going to sound really weird, and maybe a little bit dark... but, my brother was shot and killed when I was in fourth grade. That event sort-of permanently short-circuited my grief process. I can't say it's healthy, or unhealthy, but it is what it is.

The interesting thing is that it short circuited the way I grieve, but also gave me a deep sense of empathy for others who are walking through grief (while being able to maintain my composure)... so, those gifts are definitely good in a pastoral field, but it took a long time for me to get there.

I got lots of likes on my earlier post about starting the day with french toast. I think another note of positivity won't hurt.

Although there were no requests at all, I will share the french toast recipe I got from my mom.

For four to six people:

- 2 cups milk
- 4 eggs
- 1/2 cup sugar (I use a bit less)
- vanilla
- cinnamon to taste

Good old white bread works fine with this, but french bread is great. We've even made it using Irish soda bread after St. Patrick's, and that was yummy.

Hint: one trick to good french toast is getting it cooked all the way through in the center, rather than leaving a soggy center. For that reason, I don't cut bread more than an inch or so thick. I also use a flat aluminum pan lid to lay over the toast while cooking - it holds in heat and moisture and cooks the center better.

Enjoy. Things like this make life a bit nicer.

Saving this for later. Last time we made French toast..... a more appropriate name would have been 'scrambled-egg-bread' :woot:

This is a yummy pancake trick which also applies. A splash or two of lemon juice.

I don’t watch the news any more, deleted all social media accounts other than a few forums, avoid people as much as possible, and reconnected with nature, health, and gratitude.

I haven’t been this happy for a long time. A day at a time.
That is the right attitude, my friend. I've discovered that social media in general is a place that just breeds anger, stress, and outrage. I give myself a limited window in the morning to check Facebook and twitter, but I use them both primarily as ministry tools now, and life's a lot better.

I don't want to say 'ignorance is bliss' but as I've said many times in the past year... as much as we want to be outraged by everything going on, when I look around and see what's *actually* going on in the world around us, there's still never been a safer or better time to be alive than in a developed country in twenty-first century. (peeks behind me to make sure the Assyrians or Babylonians aren't marching through North Carolina burning our villages to the ground and torturing us in ways that make Guantanamo Bay feel like a trip to an amusement park)

My French Toast recipe is similar but I use bias cut baguette slices about 3/4" thick for it's crustiness and also not soggy in the middle. For less crustiness I'll use French bread.
