Is a $2000 made in Indo appropriate? Not just Fender any? Why?that doesn’t mean a $2000 MIM is appropriate. It would be ridiculous even if I had $20 million.

This thread is about Fender, and the frequency and percentage of their price increases, which are ridiculous. I don’t care about other brands. I mean, I really don’t care that much since I would never buy a new Fender besides MIJ. I just find them absolutely obnoxious. Is a $2000 made in Indo appropriate? Not just Fender any? Why?
Mim fenders aren’t 2000 , artist series are , they are more labor intensive and likely pay a royalty to the artist for every bass that’s sold , I’m sure you can see that .So you’re suggesting that the typical American is a loser if they haven’t doubled or tripled their income since 2018? Funny enough I actually have exactly tripled my income since 2018, that doesn’t mean a $2000 MIM is appropriate. It would be ridiculous even if I had $20 million.
If the labor and forex arbitrage is no longer a viable model , they will move production , china will be too expensive , Vietnam will be too expensive , they only ship things half way around the world that they can make anywhere because it’s cheaper to produce them there , when the yen appreciates significantly over a long period the Japanese basses will be out of reach , I bought a brand new Tacoma in 2001 for like 17k they aren’t 50k now because Toyota is mean and stupid , there are multiple reasonsThis thread is about Fender, and the frequency and percentage of their price increases, which are ridiculous. I didn’t call anyone a loser, I said consider where fault for the scenario lies. A takeaway could be it is difficult to pinpoint. Whether it’s appropriate depends on what it actually costs to make an instrument including profit margins. But we don’t know what that is.So you’re suggesting that the typical American is a loser if they haven’t doubled or tripled their income since 2018? They cost practically nothing probably 2-400 dollars , the only problem is the first one cost them 50 million.I didn’t call anyone a loser, I said consider where fault for the scenario lies. I’m a loser I admit it , I’m discussing bass pricing for instruments I’d never buy new on the internetI didn’t call anyone a loser, I said consider where fault for the scenario lies. No, but they are pushing it as far as they can go for maximum profits to our detriment, all while making an inferior product to a decade ago.Nobody is sitting around saying “let’s make these basses 2k to be jerks” and giggling about it
I think the same guys who set rents in my apartment building in L.A., owned by a huge REIT, are the ones setting prices on the Fender basses. They reside in offices in Wall Street. No, but they are pushing it as far as they can go for maximum profits to our detriment, all while making an inferior product to a decade ago.
Prices are not coming downI think the same guys who set rents in my apartment building in L.A., owned by a huge REIT, are the ones setting prices on the Fender basses. They reside in offices in Wall Street.
When people stop renting these apartments or buying the basses, then the prices come down. Not for long, though.
A dozen MIMs are over $1,000, though...several close to $2,000.Mim fenders aren’t 2000 , artist series are , they are more labor intensive and likely pay a royalty to the artist for every bass that’s sold , I’m sure you can see that .
As a Japanese fender guy are Japanese artist models more than standard , or reissue style , is it the same pricing model , standard modern low , vintage style middle , artist instrument higher? Are laquer models more expensive because of curing times etc , or are the all just within a few bucks ?
I am about as far from an apologist for irrational greed as there is ,but I don’t have much of a problem with them pricing things at whatever ,they’re obligated to do so . I can’t imagine it will result in more sales , I’m not a buyer at what 1800 ,or whatever they end up actually going for . The specific models in question that I’m family with my opinion is as follows the high mass bridges are terrible on the Nate and dirnt imho ,both of my Nate bodies resulted in close to 10 lb builds other than that great feel , really great sound , quarter pounders aren’t my thing but the basses in general sound great , great performance . fit and finish is not American vintage level at all it’s good I don’t think they cure the laquer the same , thick finish on Nate bodies flea has a subjective stencil relic job , finish is good dirnt was great all around just on the heavy side and no contours. That’s my take based on my limited experience with one flea , 2 Nate’s , and a dirnt , I like the mexican classic , vintera , road worn , artist a lot.No, but they are pushing it as far as they can go for maximum profits to our detriment, all while making an inferior product to a decade ago.
I never buy new fender basses except maybe custom shop , I prefer to assemble them and get combos that aren’t available , tinker etc , just for reference you can’t put a stacked knob control plate together for under 125 dollars unless you use aftermarket knobs ,good pickups for a jazz are 100-300 ,tuners are 50-100 , somebody shipped me a bass it was almost 200 not using pirate ship , things cost money , 1000 for a new bass is just not abnormal I have no idea what they should cost , I’m not saying it’s fair or good or bad , it just is what it isA dozen MIMs are over $1,000, though...several close to $2,000.
Japanese basses are different, of course, but I'd still rather go with Bacchus, Atelier Z, etc.
I agree with this. Charging damn near $3K for a Fender, including custom shop, is absurd!! That goes for ANY FSO!! Just my opinion. So for me, a NEW Fender is out of the question!! Way better options to spend that kinda coin on!! Fender used to be the working man/weekend warrior's bass/guitar!!1000 for a new bass is just not abnormal I have no idea what they should cost , I’m not saying it’s fair or good or bad , it just is what it is
I don’t need your council on the thread topic, I am aware. You don’t get to police people’s responses. This thread is about Fender, and the frequency and percentage of their price increases, which are ridiculous. I don’t care about other brands.
