Sounds like you were trying hard to make it sound deep like a P and were playing up at the neck, thus the floppy sounding notes.

It's the neck pickup soloed if it is the Jazz so it sounds pretty deep anyway.

I THINK I hear the P's hollow sound. I THINK I also hear the J's growl, but I THINK the P has more growl than a J has hollowness.

First impression is the best, I believe. The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to switch.

Isn't the J neck pickup pretty much in the same spot as the p pickup? So basically what's being compared here is a single coil pickup vs a split single coil pickup?

Well I assume the voicing of the average P and J is a bit different, I know people are saying it's hard to tell, but like I said in the last thread if the tone gets cranked then the difference will be a bit less subtle.
