Is it wrong to sell your first bass?

My first bass wouldn't fetch more than about $50, and even then it would only be used for kindling. Hooray particle board body!
It lives at my parent's house, with 1/2" action at the 12th fret and all. I play it about 4 times a year for under a minute each round.

My first bass is so cheap that there's no use to sell it in order to get smth from that, so it just sits there bringing back memories 
My first bass was a used 70s Fender Musicmaster bass. It was in great condition and now, 20 years later, I still regret selling it and always keep my eyes on serial numbers whenever I see one for sale. If i come accross it, I'll be trying to buy it back.
Everyone is different. It really just depends on how sentimental you are. If the bass had a vintage appeal or was a hard to find quality bass, you'd probably want to consider keeping it just for those reasons.

My 1st bass was an absolute piece of crap; so crappy in fact that it became soon unplayable by any normal standards. I managed to sell it to someone who needed it for parts. At the time I was glad to get rid of it....but now I miss it soooo much! I would buy it back in a heartbeat.
I still have my 83 Ibanez...I would never sell it. When I bought it back in 86 I had a choice of it and a Steinberg copy that if I had of bought would have probably sold soon after.
My first bass was a Peavey Cirrus 4. There is too much sentimental value to it for me to sell it. It also plays amazing and sounds killer.
Back in the day, I sold my first guitar. There was a decent deal of sentimental value, but the thing was built so poorly and had quite possibly the worst fret job in modern history.

It's better to sell it that to loan it to someone an they move to another state without telling you (then they sell it).

The basses I miss are the nice ones that I've sold, not my cheap Sears catalog bass (1st), or my 2nd bass --a Peavey foundation with a slight twist in the neck. I miss the Rickenbacker 4003 I special ordered in '92 that I traded for a Ibanez Soundgear 6 string bass + had to pay full price difference.....I practically gave the Rick away DUMB and disheartening to remember 
. I miss the slap tone of the beautiful early '90s birdseye neck/RW board MM Stingray 4 that I recently sold to help fund a Lakland 5594 purchase... don't regret it, just miss it . My Peavey Cirrus custom 6ers are missed, but replaced w/ a better Dingwall 6er .

well, my first was a MIM p-bass, it was red with a white pick guard, it had a bad input jack, the neck was bowed like mad, it was almost unplayable, this was years ago, and it turned me off bass for a long time, then last october (so just over a year ago now) i borrowed a bass from my school, then got a crappy silvertone from walmart which actually played well after a good setup (i learned how to do setups on that bass, and how to change strings, and how to solder, and adjust my pups etc) but it sounded absolutely terrible (i think it was made out of old newspapers
....j/k). so i learned alot on it, but it was a piece of crap so i sold it after buying a shortscale P-bass copy from a local music store, and that bass is now covered in stickers, but it's well setup and it sounds pretty damn good, but it's not my main bass. my main bass now is a peavey millennium BXP-5 and i absolutely love it, and i could go on about it but the point of this post is that i sold my first bass, then sold my other first bass years later, and i haven't regretted selling either of them. although in retrospective i bet that i could make that fender play very nicely if i had it now. still, no regrets from me.

Yeah I sold my first one a very early G&L that I bought in a pawn shop in Watson Mississippi no regrets.
I sold number 2 also to a friend and touring bassist (I think they are doing Europe next) and I did regret selling it ... BUT I did manage to get it back from him on a trade just before last Christmas.

My first bass was stolen, along with my second. I do have an attachment to my third though, and I doubt I would get enough to even cover that.
I sold my first bass, and I do kind of regret it. It was an old Washburn XB 100, and was the first bass I actually owned and didn't have to borrow. I think they were made in Korea then, and way different than the ones coming from China today. I really should have kept it. If I ever saw it for sale somewhere, I'd buy it back in a heartbeat. It's not that it was particularly amazing, obviously. It's partly nostalgia and partly the fact that it took my abuse so well. I never even changed the strings.
I sold my first bass, it was a weird Warwick copy!! from Korea or China, and it looked like it had already gone through hell a couple of times and back. I sold it to the bass player who took my place in my old band before I moved back to the US, he liked it way more than I do so I do not feel bad. So I do not consider it wrong.
I do however have a rare natural ash Fender Jazz that was given to me by a friend, it would be wrong to sell that one, and I also have a Squier that my wife bought for me when she got her first paycheck. That one is not going anywhere either

I sold my first bass about 9 months after I got it. I've sold about 10-12 other basses over the past 18 years. The only one I regret selling was the 72 Rick 4001. And the only reason I regret that is because I sold it in 1994 for around $400.
