Is it wrong to sticker your bass?

Chris Squire and McCartney did all kinds of decorative stuff to there RIC's then had them sanded down. Didn't seem to effect them, and actually may have provided new tonal variations. And closer to home Bobby Vega has stickers and other things on some of his basses. So it's your choice. Of course if you can play like those three then people will think it's cool. If your skills are less then people might see your decorating ideas in a less flattering view. But worse case, just sand the bass down and start over. Keep the groove.
I think every bass should have a sticker of my face on it.

I love stickers. I don't have any visible stickers on the front of any of my basses, but my truck, amp, conga, flight case, drums, tools, etc. are all similarly covered. To me, it is evidence of a life lived on one's own terms. It serves as a record of every gig that bass has been to. The front of this bass is classy enough for a wedding.
I think that pulling off a stickered look is dependent on how harmoniously it fits with the aesthetic of the instrument and the player. When I see a gleaming bass that has a rasta peace sign, a Bud Light and something that came free on the tag of some Zubas haphazardly stuck on the front, the only story it tells me is "I hang out at the mall." It reminds me of Craigslist ads for $50 guitars.

I threw stickers all over my first bass...granted it was a beginner Ibanez. Regardless, despite it being stolen, I still think it looks cool as hell. My parents have a picture of me with it, and I still miss it.
I'd say go ahead if you think you'll like it. It'll inspire you to pick it up and play it more, which is priceless. However, I'd say keep in mind that it could hurt the resale value or at least make it harder to sell.

but really, some people dislike it and are just trying to offer advice.
Some guys here use really thick stickers, and like 'em so much they screw them to their bassess. There's a gang of them running around this place. For some reason they think their color of stickers are better than others. The gang calls their stickers "tort".

I am far too indecisive to sticker my bass which is why I don't have any tattoos either. I suppose I could limit it to the pick guard and then just get a replacement pick guard.
I have never nor will ever put a sticker on any of my instruments two reasons. One, instruments are a work of art in themselves and should not be ruined by something as silly as a sticker. And two, I find it to be unprofessional or harmful to your image as a musician. I see someone with a sticker on their instrument and think "this guy is either a beginner or a rock star wanna be"
