And the fact that most everyone here thinks Jaco is the greatest thing since sliced bread, without actually sitting down, thinking, and considering it, makes me dislike him even more.
There's one! ***BANG!***
First off everyone here does not "think Jaco is the greatest thing since sliced bread" - there are plenty here who appreciate his contribution to music but don't find him to be someone they want to listen to.
The difference between you and them is that many, if not most, have the emotional breadth to be able to be able to find Jaco's music or attitude to be personally unappealing and still not hate him.
So far you say he brought bass playing to the forefront (which was already done before him *cough Entwistle cough Bruce cough cough cough*
He played harmonics (which were around at least 100 years before him)
Played Jazz on electric.
Good composer. (Meanwhile, he couldn't improve)
shhh... there's a rustling in the undergrowth... THERE! There's another one!
***BANG!***
Once again - simply ignoring the fact that Jaco DID take bass playing to a new level of excellence and added significant dimension to bass playing in general does not make it go away. So ignore it all you want, he actually DID do all of that and then some.
...and you should get some Triaminic for that cough...
I'm not rigid in my thinking, people keep telling me to watch and listen to him more, and I'm still not amazed. I've listened to most of his songs, and I still don't see what the big fuss is about.
Your mind is clearly made up - so why are you even dwelling on this at all? You don't enjoy Jaco - ok. So?
Your original question as to whether or not it is wrong to hate him is still very easily answered with a resounding "Yes!" - it is undeniably wrong to hate him or anyone simply because you don't enjoy their thing or because others seem to hold them up as something you don't agree with. It is WRONG - period.
Oh, yeah... ***BANG!***
Damn, that silly almost got away from me...
As for a deliberate attempt at trolling, no it wasn't. People think with their eyes and not with their heads. I don't wish Jaco death (which is already too late) but I can't stand his attitude, nor others attitude about him.
Oops, so sorry... Silly again. ***BANG!***
So because there are people here who really love his playing, his attitude and they enjoy his contribution to the world and you don't, you HATE him? Do you not find that slightly out of whack with sanity? Why so angry? Do you feel that because people like him that he has taken something away from you? What is the deal? That is just plain nuts.
People here actually think much more deeply and thoroughly (with their heads) than you are apparently willing to accept. You made a comment that was ripe for correction and got a whole boatload of correction in response. But based on the apparent limited scope of your capacity for dealing with things you don't agree with or understand (you either like it or hate it - no variation or grey area to be found), I fully expect that most, if not all has fallen on deaf and unfortunately hateful ears.
Hate, as a word, means more than "something you don't agree with". Hate is a vile and repulsive emotion that should be reserved for the most vile and repulsive things. Choosing to proclaim your hatred for a musician you simply don't dig is very definitely WRONG.
