Had this convo with my BL the other day.. We were supposed to have been playing one of the 2 local major Country venues (Southern Junction, Billy Bob's is the other) last Wed-Sat nights, which obviously ain't happening!! We don't expect to see that one, or any of the others we play come back anytime soon.. IF they do so at all!Maybe I missed it, but everyone seems to assume that the venues will still be in business. Until we have herd immunity, I can't see that a business that survives by drawing a tightly packed crowd has a viable business plan.
Sure, there will be new venues to take their place, but I wouldn't count on live music being the draw at all/many of them.
Of course, that's in my corner of the world. YMMV.
There have been local FB live streams using venmo (etc.) to collect for those smaller venues impacted.. so maybe they'll be able to survive and come back.
Even IF they re-open, I don't see most folks streaming out on the next Friday night to go boot scootin' at the local Honky Tonk - small or large! Oh, there'll be some, but I'm "guessing" it will be late in the year or 2021 before it comes back with the crowds we are used to seeing and expect. Maybe longer if we get a 2nd or 3rd wave of COVID-19!
