Is Modulus still in Business?

Im glad I got my money back about 2 mos ago for a Modulus neck that I have been waiting for since the beginning of Dec 2012.

From my experience (I had a total of three necks made for my custom Q5 over the course of 2012), it usually takes Modulus around three months to make a neck from start to finish. That said, with everything that has been going down this year, I'm glad you were able to get your money back too... I really hope they can pull it together before they lose their once-loyal customer base for good.

Joe switched the chrome hardware out for me this week. O sweet lord, its beyond words how amazing it looks in person :D:D:D

re: the usefulness of this thread, I actually think it's a good thing it's an on-going, very-much-alive thread...because presumably, as soon as some actual facts about Modulus do surface (whenever that might be) they'll make their way into this thread. Whereas if this thread died, someone would have to start a whole new thread, we might miss the news, plus we wouldn't be able to gloat if our documented predictions turned out to be correct. :)

FWIW the answer "I don't know" is pretty relevant to those considering buying a Modulus bass (particuarly if they are worried about future warranty work and/or customer service). Its not helpful in stating a defintive position, but it gives a pretty clear steer as to the current level fo CS at Modulus and that might influence a buyer's decision.

Planet Bass shows new Modulus basses in stock and Bass Central shows more on order.

Regarding Tony at Planet Bass: the new Modulii on his site that haven't sold are all stock that he has had for 4+ months. As for Bass Central, the "similar model on order" language you see is just part of the standard graphic they use when a bass sells. They certainly may have had a few basses on order... but, aside from the few that remain for sale in various places, it doesn't look like anyone will be getting a new Modulus anytime soon.

Even if they are in business still, this thread would prevent me from buying one. Someone needs to introduce them to Google Alerts

Why would the fate of Modulus prevent you from purchasing one of the best basses ever made? I could see not ordering one, but then again, I am sure nobody in their right mind would order a Mod during all of this goings on.. However, if you have stopped looking to purchase one just because they may or may not be in business any more is kind of odd.

I can't speak for that poster, but I'd guess he was talking about buying a bass that couldn't be serviced, while several posters have talked about dodgy necks. I could be wrong, though.

What I meant was, if they happened to in fact still be in business, the fact that this no one knew if they still existed for months would make me nervous to do business with them.

I can tell you right now that if I knew in December of 2012 when I bought my brand new Q5 unlined fretless for $3,600.00 that Modulus was going to be in situation they are in now I would have never bought it. I know that in most circumstances Modulus necks are very
reliable but I will always have that fear in the back of my head knowing if something does go wrong with it I will never be able to get warranty work done on it from Modulus if they are out of business.

I'll take it off your hands for you! Being out $3600 is a small price to pay for piece of mind.;)

Because the bass I owned (and the reason I started the thread) had a neck that Bass NW as well as 2 of Canada's top luthiers weren't comfortable fixing. The issue was a small backbow, so only a planing and a refret and not much else was required.

I'm sure folks from Moses and a select few others that are very comfortable with composite necks will be able to help at a price in the future if a neck goes, but I would assume Modulus did a large portion of the neck work on their own basses in the past.

Moving forward, it will be VERY interesting to see what the retailer from which a Modulus bass was bought from new says when you bring it back to them for service under the lifetime warranty. That will likely not be a fun experience.

I started this thread months ago and still nobody knows what is going on with Modulus? Sorry, that is just insane.

Great basses, but the lack of communication from Modulus is just baffling.

The people I talked to about my neck issue (at Modulus and various retailers) told me that out of hundreds of Modulus necks they have seen, the number of bad ones was super negligible. Like 5-6 per thousand negligible. I wouldn't worry as the Modulus neck is generally rock solid and everything else on the bass is easily replaced.

IMO, the principle (and the terrible customer service and communication) is why I sold my 2 Modulus basses (my main gigging basses). They are amazing playing and sounding basses and a great value new or used in any case.
