Is my GAS finally over?

Well, I acquired my holy grail bass today. A 1991 Warwick Streamer Stage 2. It now sits next to my LX5 proudly hanging above my Mesa TT800 and Subway cab. I have wanted an SS2 and Mesa as long as I can remember. I now have them both! I am sure there will be other wants down the road but I have run out of GAS for now!

I thought I was all set. Then I bought a high-end multi-fx unit and two more basses.

I do plan to sell some stuff off, but clearly the pandemic got the better of me. Yeah, that's the ticket....

There's just enough difference between playing a 4 and 5, a 5 and 6, a fretless and a fretted, a short scale and a long scale, an active and a passive, etc, that unless s/he can own one of every kind of bass, the curious bass player will always have a little teeny bit of GAS, I'd imagine.

My dream bass when I was a teenager was a Warwick thumb nt5. I ended up playing one for a decade and eventually also owned an nt6.

There’s definitely a thing where a good bass can calm gas for a period of time. And it’s good to chase that because you’ll spend more time practicing than looking for new gear. For me it didn’t last though. The problem for me with gas is no one bass does everything. I like a good fretted 5 for gigging in rock bands, but I also really like fretless basses, And I like 6 and 7 string basses and high C strung 5ers for certain situations but have issues playing certain things on them like more technical slapping so a 6 or 7 doesn’t replace a beadg 5er for me. So for me there really isn’t a single bass that can cover everything. That said I’m also not a fan of having like a dozen basses laying around with dead strings either. So for me there’s this constant balancing act of trying to be happy without going too crazy to where I’m spending a fortune on strings. Some folks have basses with flats they never change and I agree a good p bass with flats is an nice sound also. But how many basses with flats do we really need?

I have a great bass rig and a bass I have always wanted , but for the last two weeks I have really wanted to buy a 5 string . I tell myself to buy one of those Glarry basses......it's cheap , right ? It can't count if it doesn't cost much , right ?

Nice bass, I quite like Warwick basses.

I don't know if I would ever truly not want anything, but I have been good for the last 2 years and bought so very little.

Last week i was contemplating buying an Ibanez SR7VII (yes, that discontinued model was still in a store in my country and it was on sale to US$1,305.00), I went to buy it today but it sold late last week. Fate I think, I don't really need a 30 inch scale 7 string bass. I would of strung it with Flats and changed the tuning to E,A,D,G,C,F,Bb and would of felt I had Bass VI and Baritone covered.

I think I have a good enough bass for now, but I do think I would like to upgrade my amp and some effects. So GAS with control is alive and well with me.

Pretty much. There are a few basses I'd like to have, but I'm not sure if I'd actually spend the coin on them, for example, a 10 string. Or an NS Stick. Or another SS Alembic Series.

The one thing I'll get later is a fretless as I've never had one.

Otherwise I'm content with what I have, and could probably afford to pare the herd by about 1/2.

Every bass I bought ended up with me returning to my #1 after a couple o' months.
Now If I start thinking about buying another bass, I give myself 4 months the time to convince myself that I really need it... If it's sold before the time passed: It wasn't meant for me.
And most likely, I end up with my #1 without the hassle of buying and selling another not needed bass.

It is unreal... a lot of times things can't live up to the hype in your head....in this case it exceeded it. I love my LX5 and I like my Corvette (now sold) but this thing is on another level by far.

I have permanently satisfied my GAS many times. RIGHT!! Actually my GAS is under control for maybe the next 10 minutes; after that time all bets are off.

Nice bass. But I don't see a fretless or a Ray or a 2-string or a mandocello or anything. When your GAS expires you expire. Don't give up!
