Is Rock Dead?

Rock has definitely taken a back seat...but dead, not really. I think the popular sounds of the day have changed toward more electronic/groove music and less music played on instruments, especially the way electric guitar is utilized. Even i don't want to hear screaming, overdriven electric guitars anymore and they sometimes ruin what might otherwise be a tasteful arrangement. It just sounds cheesy now. On the flip side, electric bass is more relevant than ever and where guitars have been replaced with synths/keys, the bass player is still there.
I can agree with this, as a fan of their music. They are quite obviously paying tribute to classic groove based motown/funk/soul/jazz. Honestly i am not sure they are a great example to look at for the current state of rock music because i have trouble calling them a rock and roll band.
Sorry, but this goes to close to sounds heard a 30 years ago, bands like Aerosmith did it way better ...
Who’s going to connect with a young audience, the 33 year old singer in Black Stone Cherry (who was 28 when that song was released), or the 71 year old singer in Aerosmith?
It’s like the whining about Greta Van Fleet... you guys are missing the point. No one cares about Zeppelin anymore. No one cares about Aerosmith anymore. To someone who’s currently 16 they’re ancient history.
Further, what’s the point in getting excited about some kid thinking Immigrant Song or Walk this Way is cool and then tearing them apart when they start making music for themselves? You guys whine that rock and roll is dying, then you’re completely unsupportive of those who are actually trying to perpetuate it.
How many kids do you think saw Greta, saw someone who was like them, then went out and bought a guitar or a microphone?
IMO, every time a kid buys a guitar instead of a laptop to make music is a victory. I don’t have to like the music, but I still support it.

I guess I’m really out of the loop as I think The Raconteurs and The Black Keys are ‘in’.
While I was typing my last post it just sank in that Blink 182 is classic rock and Nine Inch Nails are golden oldies.
Buying an axe on Greta is same as i did on Zep, so what do you try to explain me so snotty?

That’s a great lineup. I’ve pretty much given up on festivals but would make an exception for this...
Whether or not you care is irrelevant. I made my point, you don’t have to agree. Others will read it and make up their own minds on the subject.
And these guys are the antidote to Greta Van Fleet (if you're suffering from them, that is)...
This year's line-up has yet to be announced, but Levitation always has stellar bands playing. Here's last year's line-up.
Great band, and great album - but it is over 20 years old, so probably not the greatest argument in the case for the defence of continued advance of the genre.
