Is the Basses Section getting segregated?

I'm relatively new to this forum - March '08' and have got to say that most interactions I've had with other members has been mostly positive. I was dinged my the mods for being disrespectful to someone, but the guy in my opinion had it coming. I belong to several clubs and the only reason why is that other people own the sames brand of bass that I do - it's just part of the forum.

I to get turned off by "fan boy" threads, or did you know that so n so is now selling XX brand, big deal, I could care less.

I use this forum for information and enjoy it when I get a pm now and then from someone complimenting on my gear or asking me how I can be of help to them in one way, shape or form. I to pm forum members from time to time so that I can gather more pertinent info from someone in particular.

Anywaze, I don't plan on leaving this place anytime soon and will mostly put up with the general tone of the forum.:)

I've been around for a "hot minute", but yes, there is much segregation in different basses, that's why i've started making my own (much slower process) But, i'll never have a "club" for them, that's for sure. It all sort of leads back to "anonymous" users, kind of "alters the ego", but regardless of whether I disagree or agree with anyone on TB, I still respect you all at the end of the day, no matter what I may have said *well for the most part*

I feel there has been a tendency for discussion on the basses board to really congregate in small groups who are into specific makes. I know this is natural, but I do miss seeing people who did not own a particular bass or maybe who had just played one voicing their opinion about that bass. Realistically, I know that at least some of the reason this has declined is because of flame wars that started when someone said something less than favorable about a bass that had a strong following. I know that I often censor myself to avoid making folks mad, but I do believe alot can be learned when "we swim in each other's ponds" at least sometimes.:)

Dr. Cheese, I couldn't agree more. Just because I may like Bass A, why would I "rap" Bass B? Maybe Bass A feels great in my hands, & horrible in another bass players.
One man's food could be another man's poison. You bring up a hell of a point!

I wish I could afford to have a collection of 50 or so basses, but in this economy I simply don't. Maybe the government can bail out us under 50 bass owners? :D

why? i wasn't being humble. i was stating my opinion.

unless you were being sarcastic :hyper::p:D;):):smug::eek:

I wasn't clear.... if we ALWAYS use the term, IMHO, then no one has any real reason to be offended....

Opinions make the world go around... Some prefer Jazz some Precision, some $90 some $9000...

Some like Behringer and some like MESA...

I think i made my point, IMHO...

point taken. don't care. opinions are like ********, everybody's got one. humble or not. mine tends to be rude sometimes. oh well.

Personally I would have to agree with you, i don't even visit this forum unless its deals specifically with my interest in acoustic bass guitar otherwise forget it. Infact this is probably my first post outside my subject of interest for quite some time.

and let's face it - folks will find -something- irrelevant to argue about on the internet.

Can't argue that! :D

I actually LIKE the common discussions over and over and over...why?
Imagine trying to read through ONE thread that has 200 entries for one helpful hint or the perfect answer.
The last post in that thread could be 6 months to a year old already, and a LOT happens between that.

AND the answers in the first thread may not be exactly what I needed that I may find in another "duplicate" thread.

I sometimes tire of the "do a search" responses..........this is a forum for "discussion", which is (in my opinion) an ever-changing, evolving, living, breathing......(oh, shut up now)

Really.......if all we did was "do a search", where would the new ideas come from?

+1. Sadowsky threads are notorious for turning ugly. I love my Sad but I can't believe how sensitive some others owners are. Dr. Cheese, I remember a thread you started where you gave your honest assessment about Sadowsky. I quite enjoyed it and it was a refreshing change from the worship we usually see. As I remember, it didn't go over too well with another poster.

I don't know that I'd classify it "segregationist". I think it's more a matter of people having only so much time. Therefore, they tend to gravitate toward those threads that pique their interests.

For example, let's say that I log on, knowing I only have about 15 minutes before I have to go run an errand (or whatever). If I see one thread that's discussing a product that I have or am considering, and another thread discussing something that I don't own or even care about, which one do you think I'm going to open up? Of course I'd go for the one I "know" to see if somebody has something helpful, OR critical to say about it. Because to ME, that's what's interesting at that time. Like anything else in life, we have to set priorities; so if time is a factor, most of us will click on that which catches our attention.

When time is not a limiting factor, I'll look at any thread, just in the HOPE that I'll find something interesting, helpful, or just plain entertaining.

It goes a little beyond just bass threads.

It's weird to me when someone goes into a bass, song or band thread just to state "they don't like" the subject of the thread.

If ya don't like "__________" , don't enter the thread.

This is not to say there can't be disagreement or contrary opinion. It just doesn't have to be so "hate" oriented. Just my 2¢

The heavy weights come across that way: knowledgeable; experienced; and careful with their words. There are many folks here that lack some (or all) of those qualities and they tend to validate themselves by expressing esoterically endorsed ideologies, e.g. "GK rocks and Ampeg sucks" (thought I would expand beyond basses).

Its a communication thing really. People aren't used to listening to others and carefully expressing their own thoughts as an argument and not a flame-out.

One thing is cool though, you get guys like fDeck, a mature player, commenting on teens woes of getting booted from your first band. Its that sort of place, this TB board.
