Is the Term "Colorblind" Silly?

i originally did intend it as some sort of "intellectual exercise " , but with no real intent or direction .
i was merely pointing out a different take on the " colorblind " statement .
sorry , it certainly was not my intent to bring politics into Dr.Cheese's thread , and i'm no troll .

i apologize if my terrible internet skills { the ninja emote...} offended anyone.

dave

that's fine, was just offering my opinion as a participant. as a participant in this thread, i'm trying to keep my -admin- hat on the stand.

trying to both participate and police particular threads has gotten many of us (site admins/mods), including me, in trouble before, so we sorta have it as a rule that it's either one or the other for us.

as for your original question, i don't know about anyone else, but i'd try to treat the comment the same way as if anyone else said it, although because of the carefully cultivated image that RL has purposely manufactured to sell advertising and become exceedingly wealthy, i would probably have a hard time doing it. like i said in my other post, i don't know who this chris matthews character is, so i don't know if i should be all "rabbleroused" by his commentary or not, but i just attempted to address the comment itself, which seems to be what most of the folks in this thread were doing.

look, limbaugh has gotten rich being as polarizing as possible, and has done so for decades. folks can't cry foul when his mere name polarizes folks, when that's specifically what he's been working toward his whole professional life, can they?

instead of turning this into whos right and whos wrong ill just say i find the comment nothing but socially awkward.

im a white dude and i feel if that came out of my mouth it would simply sound like lip service. colorblind just sounds like "i almost forgot that he dosent fit a black stereotype"
i just find bringing it up like that says just the opposite almost. its hard to explain.

Dr.King said: "We must come to see that the end we seek is a society at peace with its self, a society at peace with it's conscience. That will be a day not of the white man, not of the black man, that will be the day of man as man."

that dosent stand for stating youre colorblind and ignoring someones heritage..that means you respect a man as an equal enough to where bringing up his race would be pointless because its irrelevant.

i dont think he meant malice by the statement i was just kind of an awkward statement that once you make it it can be scrutinized and pulled like taffy in every which direction and almost any statement you make in defense can be twisted to someone elses bennefit.

oh well life goes on. lets just show each other respect that we all deserve and everything will be ok.

I routinely wonder how Chris Matthews manages to keep his job. Not just for the "silly" things he says, but also for his obvious bias as a "journalist" (BTW, I have zero political leanings one way or the other).

That said, I would hope that in 2010 a qualifying or clarifying statement regarding the appearance of a high visibility individual need not be necessary. What do you suppose Matthews would have said if Mrs Clinton had been elected?

i haven't watched tv (don't even own a working one) in almost 2 years, and i never watched cable/network news, so i don't know who that guy is.

Consider yourself lucky. The guy has been admonished by his own network for saying really STUPID things on air. IMHO, anything that he says automatically makes any discussion thereoff, a moot point anyway :)

No you didn't John, Dr. Cheese did in the OP. I don't like to see anyone get a pass on being raciest, no matter which side they say they are on. IMHO Matthews deserves to be put in his place for statements like that.

What are you claiming I posted? I did not call Chris Matthews racist, and I did not focus politics. I simply talked about the term colorblind as it is used regarding race in America.

Starting a thread about topic like race and throwing in two very controversial figures like Matthews and the president is like dropping an unguided bomb. You cannot predict where it will end up or attach blame for it being blown off course.

No you didn't call Matthews raciest, I did. As your example you quoted Matthews making what I consider a raciest statement. All I am saying is he deserves to be condemned as anyone in public life should for making statements like that. Why should he get a pass?

Coincidentally, since my dad is actually red/green colorblind, and this is OT, I thought I was going to see images like this:
color-blindness-test.jpg

Why is Obama crying in that picture?

Once again, Matthews is not the subject of my post. He just provided as example of a common expression.
