Is there a 1x12 cab or combo loud enough for medium sized rock shows?

I'd step up to a 1x15" if you're gonna go 1 speaker. Markbass combo or cabinet are very light and high output.

Thank you for the mention. Imo Baer belongs here too; I'm pretty sure Roger Baer's 112's are louder than mine.

As already mentioned ... Hartke Kickback 12 and 15 or Peavey Max 12/15 are the budget buys that are very dependable and will carry any stage and most rooms we're gonna inhabit. DI out to the board if you need more. If you just want to spend more money, however, the Genzler and Mesa stuff is tops.

Lots of expensive suggestions here. short answer is no, reasonably affordably (adverbs can modify adverbs...it's like magic!). I'd go with a GK MB500 and NEO115 or equivalent. I rehearse with a GK MB200 head and NEO112, and gig with a Mesa M6 Carbine and 2 GK115 NEOs. In medium clubs I just use the top 115 (8 ohms - 320 watts from the M6) and it is plenty loud.

I've tried the MB200 with NEO112 in a medium (to larger) oops situation and it was overdriven to keep up.

I own several of the high end cabinets and, yes, you can do this with a 112 but not a cheap one.

For shows and venues you are describing safe bet is to take more than you think you'll need. It's always easier to 'peel-back' or to have and not need. I've been burn't a few times not having enough.

If I had FOH I could make do with just the one, but I don't so I use 2 112 's.

My cabs are Barefaced Super Compacts.

I don't believe that the OP has returned to provide any additional details concerning what rock genre he's playing or how loud his drummer is, but respectfully, stating that those combos will carry any stage and most rooms might be going a bit too far as far as most modern rock is concerned.

Speaking from experience here - I've been provided those Kickbacks as part of backlines on more than one occasion, and have had them struggle to be heard over the drums/mix even on what I'd consider very small stages.

Everybody's mileage will vary, and nothing against those combos - I'm not saying that you need to spend a ton of money by any means for a cab(s) that will be heard, but unless you're going with one of the high-displacement super-cabs already mentioned in this thread (and even then I'm not really even so sure when it comes to 112s), for rock you're probably going to need another speaker.
