Is there old music that isn't horrible?

It's obvious OP is unaware of The Shaggs

Love the Guitars!

And what, my boy, do you consider "old"?

Personally I dig Dowland (1563-1626), Monteverdi (1567-1643), then there's Josquin Des Prez (1450-1521); moving to more modern we have of course Bach (1685-1750) Beethoven (1770-1820), Brahms (1833-1897). How does Stravinsky grab ya?

You want to move more into the popular area? How about King Oliver, Louis Armstrong, the Carter Family, Jimmie Rodgers, the ballad collections of Cecil Sharp?

Oh, maybe you're looking for something a little more uptown? Cab Calloway, Chick Webb, Charlie Parker, Claude Thornhill? The Miles Davis bands with Trane and Cannon, or the ones with Wayne? Or the one with Marcus Miller?

But no, something in me senses you're talking about rock and roll...

So are any of these sufficicently "not horrible": Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, the Beatles, the Stones, the Who, the Dead, Janis Joplin, the Doors, King Crimson, Yes, the Ramones, the Clash, Santana?

Or is it that being "old music" in itself makes it horrible?

As Duke used to say when firing a musician, "He has decided to take a break and do some more study". Maybe you should consider that?

Or, as Dave Berg used to say "Opinionated ignorance is a no-no!"

Dave Berg was one of my heros!

Everyone is permitted to have their own tastes in music. I'm looking for the anti me that enjoys only polka.

My first gig a a bassist was in a Polka band. it was 1968. I was 14 and never played a bass before, but I knew how to finger pick a guitar playing bass parts with my thumb. Made $45 that afternoon for 2 hours. Adjusted for inflation thats….maybe I should have stuck with the genre….

I can't understand where people listen to the same tired tracks over and over. ;-)
i only do it in my car --- does that even count? TBH: i play one tune over and over.

Do we really have to do these threads? I mean seriously, I have started at least 5 or 6 threads in off topic dedicated solely to jackassery.
yeah, but they just don't have the zing this one has!

the sarcasm thread is two doors down.
yup, and it's the best damn thread on TB by a longshot --- i think i've stated publicly that it's my favorite --- waaaay better than this one!
