Is there such a thing as warm, clear round Wound?

Im looking to find a warm round wound that offers warmth and clarity with tamed top end. I don't like zingy or harsh highs. It could even be a tape wound. What would be some good choices?

Any nickel wound. D'addario XLs I find to be plenty warm. A little bit zingy when first put on, but not really that much. Plus you can always roll the treble back slightly.

For me this is old Lo-Riders. I found Sunbeams just a bit too dull, but my amp is very un-hifi, tubes and a 2-12 w/no tweeter.

GHS Bass Boomers have transformed my P bass into a new instrument the traditional P low end is there but you get a nice articulate bite without a harsh G string.

My P-Bass wears GHS Pressurewound, and I think they're a great option for the tone and feel that you're describing.

The TI power bass strings are amazing. Pricey, but should last forever. They have a depth and warmth that show their value. I haven't tried the jazz rounds, but from how people describe them, it's similar but with more normal tension and gauge.

I tried TI Power Bass and while they sounded good they wasn't wuite what I was looking for. I have TI Flats on my main bass and like them but wanted something different for my 2nd bass. I've currently got Cobalt flats on it and they sound good but I don;t like the thud that you get from broken in flats. Are the TI Jazz Rounds similar in tone to the TI Power Rounds?

DR Sunbeams.

Yes! I use sunbeams on my brightest active basses and it's a heavenly combination. They have very little break in time and difference in tone after use.

I like my D'Addario Tapewounds. They're still clear, the high end isn't gone, but it's much more refined and controlled. If flatwounds are a low pass filter, tapewounds are more like a shelving cut that just knocks 6-8db off the treble.

Nickel, the more of it, the better. I used to play Pyramids (roundwounds, but flats are sweet too), and I'm currently trying Fender pure nickels. That being said, I find most strings with at least some nickel on them (coating) to be fine after the first few hours of play, and some judicious use of the tone knob. From this camp, I recently tried D'Addario XLs and DR Low Riders (hex core), and was quite happy with both. I've yet to try TIs, sounds like I may like them...

GHS boomers are very "warm." DR Black Beauties are also very tame.

Turn down your tone/treble on your bass and/or amp. I get a very similar tone from both the rounds and flats I play. I boost some treble when I play the flats, I get rid of some when I play rounds.

I run one headless with flats, and just got another that I keep rounds on. The rounds are the stock Steinberger rounds. Not sure if Geddy was using them on his old Steiny, but if you've heard his tone I can get the complete opposite with the same strings.
