Is this bass worth the trouble?

Not so fast- you might be surprised to find that bigger pickup doesn't equal bigger sound. The loudest, most aggressive tone will probably come from a Strat pickup. I wouldn't go routing just yet.

There's no routing required..as I said before. Maybe I can find a cheap strat pup on craigslist

Picking up an MIM strat neck pup after work today for $12.50. Score. She may be up and running by Monday!

As long as the neck is straight and undamaged, cheap basses are well worth it.

Seller cancelled due to car trouble but we rescheduled for today so Ill have the parts. Original bridge is back on, it works out better than the Jag bridge, neck is adjuated and smooth with low action. All I need is the pickup.

To do list:
-Paint the pickup cover black to match the knobs
-Paint pickguard ivory/parchment for vintagey appeal
-Install the pickup
-Find a nice set of short scale low tension flats.

And that should be all she wrote

Pickupcover painted, p'up install tonight, taking it for a test run at a jam tomorrow to see whether I want to leave it straight to Jack or add pots. Then onto the pickguard paint. I'll be ordering GHS Brite Flats (groundwound) from Bass Strings Online which is run by a great guy and fellow TBr SLaPiNFuNK. I'm starting to get anxious.

It sounds surprisingly good. I was expecting a thinner sound due to the strategy pup but it sounds fat, nails the P sound. I'm pleased to say the least
