Is this even worth considering fixing?

I bought a MIM Jazz last year for $300. The neck was replaced with a neck from Indonesia. It plays "okay" but not really. I have not been able to set up the action to work for me yet. I got the original neck from the shop that I got the bass from. I didn't do it, I promise. It is a gonner. Here is a picture of the broked truss rod in the old next. Thoughts?

I think any conceivable repair is going to be more expensive than the bass is worth. That would require removing the fretboard or skunk stripe from the back, or some arcane drilling and tapping/welding operation to install a new adjuster head. Meh. Get a cheap replacement neck and use this as a beater. The Mighty Mite and All parts necks are decent, avoid the Chinese EBay specials, most need a fret level and polish right out of the box. If you want to get creative, Carbon/Keisel sells very nice "paddle" head stock necks so you can carve your own.

Not unlikely. MIM neck with a truss rod made locally and probably also sold to Stewart-McDonald. It does appear to be a double rod type with the adjustment rod twisted off and the static rod both visible in the thread block. The odd part is that tightening the top rod of a double rod type truss would add bow to the neck, if that is the fingerboard above the hole.

The “original” neck from a MIM Jazz would be a MIM neck. It’s the one with the broken truss rod.

Fr8ghtrain; is the picture in your original post of the neck heel? Does it say “Made in Mexico” on the headstock?
