If it only happens at the third fret or higher I don't see how anything happening at the nut or especially behind the nut could be at fault.

Just out of curiosity, are you muting the other strings? Sometimes I'll get harmonics on certain notes and it's from other strings vibrating that I'm not even playing.

Yeah I checked for that. Crazy thing is now I hear it on my elite pbass!

It's on the Tt800. Hmmmm I'm kinda stumped. In a mix it won't matter, but if I sustain the low g... It lessens if I cut around 4 to 500 or so Hz, so I dunno. It's not like I'll be putting out any solo records anytime soon hahaha

I was going to ask this same thing but you did this already so here are some other thoughts:

This question is for anyone following the thread.
Can a harmonic be created by plucking a string in different places? Kind of a combination of the intended note and one created at the plucking position.

On another note...
Something that I have heard at times is the string vibrating between the fretted position and the nut. Just wondering if this might contribute to a harmonic sound?

I put a capo on fret 2 and played the 3rd fret g and same thing. I also played up and down, and the harmonic is still there, but can get quieter or louder. Because it's on my elite pbass too, I think I'm just gonna have to deal with it. Strange I hadn't heard it until now though, but in a band it won't matter a bit. My OCD only goes so far haha

The following description is not meant to be what you are experiencing but something I have noticed happening to me at times. I am a stickler for having as clean a sound as possible. There have been times when at the end of a phrase I will mute the strings with my fingering hand and cause harmonics by being located at a node. Again, this has been for the purpose of sharing information and for entertainment only. :)
